New Music: God My Rock (Brenton Brown)

7

Got some great music out today from Brenton Brown.

God My Rock, the latest project from Brenton Brown, is a wonderful mix of old, new, familiar, and fresh. It’s not uncommon to search an album for one, maybe two, useable songs for worship environments, but just about every single song on this album is a song that will be effective and accessible for gatherings by worship ministries everywhere. Worship leaders, we highly recommend this one!

With a very familiar, yet fresh, sound, Brenton does what he does best: write and deliver songs for praise and worship that are definitely useable in most church settings.

From the beginning song Our God Is Mercy throughout and all the way to the last familiar song Everlasting God/How He Loves, the album pulses along with an energy that we’re used to experiencing from Brenton Brown songs.

This album has a a very guitar driven and the melodies are very singable throughout each song.

Standout songs are:

Joyful – a great rendition of the old familiar Ode to Joy tune set in a modern groove and with an added chorus that makes this accessible to younger audiences who might not be familiar with the hymn.

Glorious – this one is a familiar song we’ve grown to love from Paul Baloche’s recording.

God My Rock – the title cut drives along with nice guitar work. The lyrics are encouraging and remind us God’s faithfulness.

Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) – yet another familiar tune that we’ve heard before. One of my favorite “upbeat” songs from the last few years.

I Saw The Light– Yep, this is the old Southern Gospel standard. I always find it interesting when British artists sing country or Southern Gospel, because they seem to do it well. This is a fun deviation from the standard modern worship sound throughout the album.

We at The Worship Community highly recommend this album for worship teams in every environment. Brenton takes a familiar sound and makes it fresh through songs we’ve already grown to love and with new ones. You can grab this album from itunes here.
