Default TWCSW June-"All Your Ways are Faithful"

Thanks, Tom. I posted this in the wrong place earlier.
Anyway, here's my song...I realize it's not very congregational-worship friendly but it's what God gave me. I might do a rewrite of this for easier singing/learning later on.

Your words are straight from scripture; who can argue with that?
The minor key is different
I think you are off to a great start with it.

Default Great start!

Hi Kim,

Great start. I'm not a huge fan personally of minor keyed music, however, I think this has great potential to work well in a congregational settings. I couldn't help be hear a sanctuary full of people clapping in the background and the lead instrument being an acoustic guitar. Made me think of something I'd hear Paul Wilbur leading possibly..kind of along the lines of his tune Adonai.

I found the timing slightly out of sync or odd at times musically.

I think one main area was the lyric "my eyes are ever for you". I found it difficult to follow where you were going timing wise. It may be more the chording... I think the chord on "ever" should be different, it sounded a bit out of place holding the same chord from the beginning of that line.

Great job!

Thank you both! Great suggestions. As of now, I really don't know WHY I'm writing music, it's just a God thing, but I will focus on making the songs worship friendly.
For some reason I am very drawn to minor keyed music...just my taste, I suppose, but I will definitely change things up by trying to write in major keys, too.
Yes, the timing is definitely off. Having to use a drum loop (Garageband) makes things difficult as far as speeding up or slowing down; all I can really do is keep with the beat. Nothing interesting rhythmically going on. Difficult when there's a change in the "feel", i.e., from chorus to bridge.
I will keep on...!

Hmm, interesting sentence. I hope you didn't misunderstand my critiques to say that this particular tune WASN'T worship friendly... I think it is... honestly if it is truly a GOD thing and He is inspiring you with words and creativity, it is WORSHIP friendly in His eyes, most importantly!! Hold on to that!

We all have our musical tastes, so if you prefer minor keys, then minor keys may be your forte. I was merely mentioning that it isn't my preference usually, but that I liked this particular song.

I hear ya about using drum loops. I only have at my disposal the built in drum machine in my digital piano unit. As far as slowing down / speeding up, I'm not sure I get what you're saying as I typically try to keep my tunes at a consistent timing. I do get frustrated though that my recordings lack rolls and fills on the drums in appropriate places.

My comments were meant as an encouragement and I'm hoping you didn't take them any other way. If you have, I apologize. Praise the Lord and sing to Him with new songs! He'll take care of the rest...

Thanks again for sharing.

Hey, there, Piano Dude...
Believe me, I DID NOT in any way think you were trying to be anything more than helpful. In fact, I crave this sort of interaction because I don't know anyone in "real life" that writes music or has the time to discuss things. Even if comments are more critical (which yours were not!) bring it on! I want to get better and this one of the best ways to do it.
I also meant that I do love the minor key sound but I do have some songs in the major key that I'm going to finish up and post soon. And I am going to continue trying to write songs for the congregation, although I'm not sure if that's what God wants...I'm waiting on Him and His voice right now...
Blessings!
