Well, here is my song. Looking at the verses of Psalms 31, I simply ran all over that chapter for this song. Overall, I see that God is our shelter, or covering when our enemies or problems seem to being getting the best of us. So the name of the song is shelter, in the key of G.
My favorite verses I pulled from for this is: "You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place" vs. 8 NIV "Warm me, your servant, with a smile;..." vs. 16 The Message WARNING: I recorded this in a small area, with my IPhone, mic'd it to the laptop into GoldWave, then to an mp3. Voice is raspy on this, forgive me, but I think you can get the overall feel and sound for the song. Shelter ©2010 Jason Hopp Verse 1 Oh, Your goodness follows me It is a refuge for my life As the darkness comes to me Through Your mercy You hear my cry Chrous I will praise You Lord For You are my shelter in the storm I will praise You Lord For Your light it always keeps me warm When the world closes in You set my feet in the open place Through Your power, love and grace I praise You Lord Verse 2 There is trouble all around No escape that I can see I was lost but now I'm found In His hands I'll always be Shelter mp3 download |

Jason, beautiful interpretation and lyrics. I can totally here this being played by a worship band. Lots of potential for drums / hand percussion, etc.
My only lyrical critique, if you can call it that is that in Verse 2, you are referring to God as "His", but the rest of the song seems to be being sung to God. Any thoughts on changing that to "Your" to keep the flow the same throughout or did you have it that way purposely? Great job! -Brian |

Jason, I am continually amazed the way God is showing each of us different aspects of who he is and how he works as we write our songs. We will all be much richer spiritually for doing this project.
You have expressed some awesome truths about our God in your words, and the melody of the song is very good. I think it will be one of the songs that will be sung in many of our churches. Thanks for letting God lead you in this. Tom |

to me, this beegs to be interpreted through the lens of Shane and Shane. The song's lyrics alone bring me to Joy in my spirit. If you could put up a chord chart that would help me immensely (I can admit, I am not skilled enough to transcribe it)
I really like this. I could see this being done with a shane and shane tone mixed with a little of the Wickham brothers. |
