Hey everybody! I'm Saya and I'm from Southwest Missouri. I'm a homeschooled teenager that was raised in the church. I'm also a musician. And now I'm the Student Leader of the Youth Worship Team. Yikes! I'm a classically trained Violist, I've been trained on the Violin and Cello, and I play just a bit of Guitar (just finger-style, chords and strumming have thrown me for a loop). My Grandmother was a church organist for years and my Mom is a former choir member. We just moved to a new church this summer and they don't have a youth worship team. I volunteered to head it up. Hopefully I haven't gotten myself in over my head. This forum has already been a great resource for me. I look forward to really digging into it!

Welcome to TWC, Saya. Glad you found us. We have at least 2 or 3 other teen worship leaders here, so you are among good company.
Glad you found us, Saya! I have family in St Louis and Kansas City. :-) Jump right into the forums. You'll find a wealth of information and great advice from the seasoned veterans here at TWC.

Hi Saya--I'm a worship pastor/musician/artist etc and have been in full time ministry for over ten years now. I'm a strings player as well. Violin is my first and most proficient instrument. I want to encourage you--definitely work on your guitar/keyboard skills until you can lead confidently with one of those, BUT...having a strings background is NOT a bad thing. Violin is my "secret weapon" that allows me to instantly connect with people of all generations in worship. It has been a huge asset to my ministry. You will also find, over time, that you will draw some great musicians around you because your classical training lends a lot of credibility. Keep learning, for sure. I found that my biggest weak area was learning to lead a rhythm section--drums, bass etc...thinking about groove. If you are going to be playing/leading any pop/rock/R&B etc this is critical to your success. You may know how to do all that already--I don't know...I'm just sharing my experience... God Bless!
