    Default Worship In Truth

Truth in the bible has been translated to cover this words firmness, stability, constancy and also faithfulness, honesty, justice and also uprightness

“Truth also means being honest with God”.

Jesus said the only truth was to be found in God’s word for it is this word that is true. The greatest worshipper on earth is the one who understands and has communion with the word of God. You can’t worship someone you don’t know and the best way to know God is to read and commune with His word.

“O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God Psalms 43:3-4

“Sanctify them in truth, thy Word is truth”, John 17:17.

Know who He is and worship Him with revelation, scripture wonderfully directs and enriches our worship. Our worship should be directed and guided by the word of God. If we do not know God how can we possibly begin to worship God?

“And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God”, Nehemiah 9:3 What you are reading, is it revealing God, is it bringing you to your knees or worship, is it bringing truth. The children of Israel read the word (truth) and that brought them to repentance and worship.

We have learnt to worship in the spirit, sing by the spirit, sing in tongues and live by the spirit. We have learnt and been taught to worship by the Spirit and we haven’t learnt to be truthful (firmness, stability, constancy and also faithfulness, honesty, justice and also uprightness) with God in our Worship.

God is now calling us to worship him by truth, being honest and honest with self and God. Most times we worship God so that he might do something, worshipping to get a blessing from God but our hearts are far from God, Truth is already absent in such a relationship.

Someone said “I worship God as I perceive him to be”. Ask yourself this question is your worship utterly consistent with what God has shown and the worship He requires? If you don’t have an answer then I guess its time that you start asking God to show you and explain such things to you.

Though that is a good application and should ALSO be done, that's not actually the literal interpretation of "in spirit and in truth"

In the mizrachi (eastern) cultural context, a better way of understanding what He's saying is "worship the Lord in passion and sincerity"

To worship with your whole essense or "spirit" is passionately seeking Him. And to "truly" worship Him in sincerity. There is nothing mysterious about it...just practical advice to a Samaritan woman who thinks there is some kind of correct ritual or place to go.

Nothing intellectual about it either, though truth is still the highest spiritual principle one can attain to. It's even higher than love since that also requires truth.

But truth is a given. He's saying more than that in this instance.

Excellent article, I enjoyed it! It reminds me of the Westminster Shorter Catechism (which I keep coming back to)--"What is the chief end of man? The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." True words. 2 Chron. 5:11-14 and Rev. 5:11-14 give us a great picture of Worship that we as Worship Leaders should always keep before us as goals to emulate. True worship is living and displaying Jesus in all His glory (David Needham). May we endeavor always to do the same!!
