Looking for a cajon. Can You help?
I'd like to purchase a good cajon for our worship team. One that seems good is the S-series cajon by Kopf Percussion, but I've never used one and am not sure what direction to go. It would also be nice to have one with a pickup, but it seems that not many have one, and the pickup that some do have doesn't seem to do the instrument justice. The cajon does not have to have a pickup, but that would be a plus. Can you help?
We have Meini Siam snare cajon, and love it. I had bought a pedal cajon and wound up returning it, and got this one instead.
In my experience, unless you get a high-end pickup cajon, they always sound better mic'd than plugged in.
I like the higher end Meinls a lot. I'm not familiar with the Kopf drums, but they look pretty cool from the website.
I agree with mikeymo - I would much rather mic a cajon than use a pickup. I usually dual mic - one in the soundhole for the low tone, one on the front for the slap.
I've never heard of a Cajon with a pick up... use two mics on it, one for the high snare sound and one for the low boom bass sound. Every drum is a little different but I was able to find a come up item on sale at guitar center for $99 and it serves the purpose. I have a great drum friend that helps me out with these kinds of things to but it already sound like you know what you want... Make sure you have good mics, and you'll be able to achieve the drum set sound.
