"But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."
(1 Timothy 1:13-14 ESV)
Red Mountain Music has recorded a wonderful arrangement of this Anne Steele hymn, Come All Ye Pining (Lord, We Adore Thy Boundless Grace):
Lord, we adore Thy boundless grace,
The heights and depths unknown,
Of pardon, life, and joy, and peace,
In Thy Beloved Son.
O wondrous gifts of love divine,
Dear Source of every good;
Jesus, in Thee what glories shine!
How rich Thy flowing blood!
Come, all ye pining, hungry, poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For every willing guest.
Here shall your numerous wants receive
A free, a full supply;
He has unmeasured bliss to give,
And joys that never die.
You can find the song on their album, "All Things New". The line beginning with "Come, all ye pining" is sung as the refrain between verses. This song is about the sufficiency of the atonement of Christ and it is a comfort for those who come to worship as beggers (as we all ought), especially those feeling guilty in their sins. I like to think that this is what Christian (from The Pilgrim's Progress) would have sung when the burden fell from his back. This arrangement is very singable and our congregation has learned it quick and is among our favorites. Though Red Mountains's recording is on the piano, I lead it easily on the guitar. Message me if you'd like a copy of guitar chords.
