This could go way off topic in a hurry, and I'm no expert in the matter, but wondering what your diet looks like? Just curious, because of the pro-inflammatory nature of most of our western diet food staples. I'd be curious to know if you've approached pain management (at all) from the standpoint of diet.

Like I said, I'm not an expert and I'm not recommending any specifics, just curious if that's a part of your journey at this point? A simple yes or no answer will keep this from going off topic and we could engage in conversation about it through private messages or another thread if you like.

I am a doctor, and I have seen what addiction to prescription drugs can do to people....Medically speaking, if it will help with the pain and you can get it legally, it is ok.
From a Christian standpoint, I think the worry is about not wanting to break the law. As long as the law of whatever state is not being broken, you can take it.
We join our faith with you for total healing and restoration. I pray in Jesus that soon and very soon, according to your faith, you will no longer need to be on any medication. Amen

Thanks very much for your prayers shola.. And for your medical advice.. I think after all the research, prayer, and input from others, I feel as though medically, it is ok, and provided that where you live it's legal, then as a Christian it's ok.. Well not that I find it ok, but I consider it to be a good alternative to typical pain meds.. as you said, the worry as a Christian is in breaking the law, and if it's legal where you are (which it is where I am) then it should be treated the same way any medication is.

Oh and I do fully believe 100% that God can heal me... I just wish he'd do it in my time, instead of his!!!

Update: docs are still trying to find a solution for my back (at least they say they are)... I've recently been moved from oxycontin to morphine and dilaudid, had an allergic reaction to those, and am now on the fentanyl patch. I've also had several procedures on my back over the last 6 months, with no help for the problem. Please keep praying for a solution... It's getting really frustrating.

Pretty much, if it's legal and it helps you are better off after taking it than before you did (meaning you are not high as a kite inhibiting your mental capacities and the pain is bearable) then there shouldn't be any issues. Typically, it would be less harmful than the cocktail of drugs it sounds like you are one now. Wow buddy, it must be bad! I'm sorry to hear that.

Mark 9:43 - And if your hand causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell—the unquenchable fire...(You know the rest.)

Mark 9:49,50 For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if the salt should lose its flavor, how can you make it salty? Have salt among yourselves and be at peace with one another.”

Basically, if it causes you to sin then you should probably stop.

Chris, I know this may be a bit off topic and has the potential of getting a little personal. So, bear with me please. For almost a year, I have been in ministry training focused on healing and deliverance. Without going into too much detail about the ministry itself, I had an experience with my back that astounded me. One of the ministry sessions focused on what's called "soul/spirit hurts." During this session, the Lord brought up several painful emotional memories moving from most recent all the way to the starting point. As I'm writing all of them down, the Lord shared with me a history of unforgiveness over the decades. Once I confronted this history, I woke up the next morning PAIN FREE! Later, a friend of mine explained to me how much our physical condition is effected by our spiritual baggage. Granted, my back pain was mostly muscular, and I dealt with the muscular pain since my bowling days when I carried 28 pounds on each shoulder every other day; I used to bowl 13 games a day in my competitive years. Needless to day, the Lord healed me all the same, even though my pain was self-induced.

Since you have had unsuccessful surgery(ies) and the doctors cannot pinpoint the correction, have you considered looking into ministries that focus on healing and deliverance? I'm simply wondering the spiritual side of this issue. I apologize if I came across and presuming, but I thought I might put something different on the table. I'm praying for your healing, bro!

Thanks for the comments vanguard.. I totally get what you're saying, and this is something I've been through.. As I said in another post I 100% believe God can heal me, but for whatever reason he hasn't.

The problem I have is not muscle pain.. Which I can totally see spiritual hurts causing muscle pain.. We carry stress in different ways, and spiritual hurts stress us, which can cause serious pain.. My pain is physical.. Disks moving and slipping out of place and destroying (7 disks to be exact)... This isn't caused by emotional/spiritual hurts/stress... It's caused by.. For a lack of better explanation.. Years of stupidity.. Jumping off huge ramps, bombing down snow capped hills... Just physical abuse that comes with being a extreme sports athlete for 15 years.. And while some bodies can handle that abuse.. Some can't..

Yes, I still believe God can heal this type of pain.. But for whatever reason he's not.. And that's his choice.. I pray a lot about it, other people pray for me, I've gone to healing services and been prayed over by people, people have even come to my home to spend an afternoon praying.. But for whatever reason He hasn't healed me..

Until he decides to heal me, I will visit doctors and try the things they want me to try.. Because I believe that sometimes people brush off doctors and wait for Gods healing, and nothing happens.. But what about the miracle of medicine... God created that too.. And I'm content with that.. But will keep praying regardless!!!
