Here is my March song. I chose to focus on the juxtaposition between life and death that is brought out in the passage, especially Mark 8:35.

This Life W/M Mark Snyder, 2011
I don't want to love this life
For You taught me by Your death
That nothing in this world compares with Your own righteousness
That You showed me with Your life
And You gave me by Your death
So I'll be with You forever when this body finally rests
(Chorus)
You changed death into life
You call me to Your side
Like the sinner hanging by You
You showed him paradise
Resurrected, alive
And the grave has been denied
You chose the cross and gave to me this life
So I choose a holy life
And I put my sin to death
And take my cross and follow where Your feet lead mine to tread
And I’ll live a faithful life
And I’ll have no fear of death
So I'll be with You forever when this body finally rests
(Chorus)
I don't want to love this life
For You bought me with Your death
So I'll be with You forever when this body finally rests

Well, you've been on fire the past couple of songs! I like this one a lot, too. Of course, I have nothing to say about the lyrics. As usual, excellent job. I really like the verse structure. And I like your use of the "long i" rhymes in the chorus.
Very nice melody. Maybe I just really like your style, but I wouldn't mind learning and doing this one, too. Keep it up!![]()
Hey Kim,
I did attach a lead sheet to the post in PDF form. Thanks for the encouragement. As to melody, there is definitely a style of song, beginning in the 60s and maybe through the 70s, where melodies were bigger that they tend to be today. Since that music is what I grew up with, I think that influences how I approach it.
I think this song could use a keyboard driven, almost like 'Desparado' by the Eagles treatment. Try it on your keyboard that way and see if you agree! That song is definitely an influence on this one, as I am sure some listeners might have noticed.
Good song, Mark.
I certainly relate to what you told Kim about writing in the style of your (our) generation. I tend to do the same.
I like the contrast between death and life that you put into the song.
Thanks for sharing. Turns out the Mark passage is kind of tough. I still haven't got mine nailed down yet.
Tom
I did go for a simpler set of lyrics, and the contrast that was found in the verse I thought was worth exploring.
I agree, a bit of a tough passage, but still thought provoking.
I still don't get email notifications when there are replies to threads I subscribe to (I have to ask someone about that.) So I'm just now seeing your replies. I will look for the chart and try it! I do know that song, "Desperado"...more from Seinfeld than from the radio! Did you see that episode? Where Elaine's boyfriend spaces out every time he hears that song. Classic TV series, even though they were a little crass sometimes.
Anyway, I'll look for it.
No I grew up when the Eagles were popular, believe it or not!
The chords for this are easy, BTW. You might be able to improve the harmony a bit. I am not too skilled in making better harmony parts.
The email options are under 'User CP', under 'Edit Options' (if you did not know that already!).
