Hello everyone,
I did try to actually write a song based on the scripture challenge for this month, but I had a difficult time because out of the 27 or 28 verses I already have 18 of those verses to music. I couldn't get the tunes out of my head, so I decided to take one part of it - I Chronicles 16:23-33 - which is actually Psalm 96 - and just go ahead and sing it. I put it on the KOMPOS site for anyone who wants to collaborate on it.

"Serve the Lord with gladness, come before His presence with singing!" (PS 100:2)
I will be honest first... I am not a fan of minor keyed songs, however, when used properly, they are effective. I feel that is the case with this rendition of the Scriptures. It has a "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who musical vibe to it. I could also envision a song like this on a John Michael Talbot and/or Michael Card album.
I am intrigued by the "background vocal" echoes the way they are panned in the mix. I love the vocal work at the end as well with the last two phrases. I think a nice bass track would add a nice bottom end. I don't know if I've ever listened to an interpretation of Scripture more or less verbatim set to music.. nice work.

This is cool. It has a 60's folk feel to it, with a minor key bent. I like the concept of singing scripture. In many cultures there are story-singers who sing the tales of their heroes and their battles in story form. You are doing something similar here with the scriptures, which is neat. I could see this as a good Bible memorization thing, since musically it is nice and listenable. You would listen over and over and thus get the passage implanted in your head, where it would stay, available for when you need it. Good job.
Thank you both for your comments. Honestly I was not sure how people would respond to the scripture to music. I didn't think anyone outside of my super spiritual friends and family would like it.
Mark - The Lord has given me lots of scripture to music and I've thought of making CD's of it for memorization purposes, just like you said. You are right, you do memorize them by listening over and over. Not only memorizing but getting the Word of God inside of you the way only music can accomplish - for me anyway. I need a lot of the Word inside of me so I'm sure that has something to do with why the Lord gives me music to scripture. I do write songs but personally enjoy the scripture songs more myself. I cannot write anything better than the Word of God.Thank you for your compliments
Brian, I wonder what you would think of the other's because a lot of songs come out of me in minor chords. I don't know what "Behind Blue Eyes" is but now you have me curious and I'll have to check it out on the internet. Thank you for your nice comments. Most the songs I record, especially the scriptures have that type of back-up vocals. That's just the way it comes out. I hear things in my head that I can't play musically so I kind of sing it. Sometimes my back-up vocals are taking the place of instruments, including keyboards etc.
The mix that is on there now Nick put together. He panned the vocals and polished it up. I liked his mixing version so much better than mine so I made his the feature.
Thank you both again & Blessings.....c

@Carol,
I wouldn't take my comment about "Behind Blue Eyes" too literally. Lyrically that song is depressing, however, it was more the musical tone that I was drawing a vague comparison to, NOT LYRICAL... so please don't look up that tune and think "what the heck was he thinking" ;-) Also, the tendency to not go "minor keyed" is merely a personal preference of mine, it doesn't mean I don't like when other people use it. As a songwriter, I personally just tend not to do minor keyed arrangements too well. In your case and in the style of that song, I think you did it well.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for clarifying thatI did look up the song and remember hearing it before in the past but it is kind of depressing so I didn't listen to it too long. It seems the older I get the more I just want to listen to lyrics about Jesus!
I've listened to the music you have that I could find and I like it it. You've done a lot of collaborations. Since I posted the song on Kompos I think I realize now that to really collaborate I need to put a song on there I'm working on and not kind of "finished." You all want to collaborate and not just play along with a song. That's what I've been thinking anyway.
I've been listening to a lot of people on soundcloud from this site and others who are following them. It is so cool that I never knew all this stuff was even here, but suddenly It seems I'm surrounded by a lot of people - and it is very cool!
Thank you again for the input and your kind comments

I agree...I really like this. I like the "sound" of it. Very contemplative. It would be great just played in a service with the lights dimmed, and people focusing on the words in worship. Very nice!
Thank you, Kim,
You are a dear heart
Blessings...
