Influence Them
1) Central Passages:
- Psalm 34:8
- Psalm 34:1-8
- 2 Chronicles 20:5-12; 14-17; 20
2) My Daily Praise:
Consider the 3 attributes of God listed in the last verses listed above. Write a prayer to God thanking Him for each!
3) My Daily Surrender:
How determined are you to influence those around you to worship? Ask God to use you and your worship team (or family) to help bring down someone's walls this coming Sunday.
Central Passages:
There is one element I want to add to this lesson. In the “Hypothetical Joe” portion, Moore did not mention that Joe recognized WHY people were worshiping God. Yes, Joe had a good feeling because the music was good, he saw people praising, and he heard “come join me” from the leader, but he did not ask “why” are they worshiping? I believe, for many reasons, we should express WHY we worship whenever we gather. Is it biblical to praise a God we do not know? Nope.
Daily Praise:
Lord, I am stuck on one little word; ONLY. You are the only absolute truth, the only savior for all mankind, the only Lord, the only King, the only Messiah! I love that you are more than just a good option; you are the only way we can live! This is why I praise you with all my heart, my soul, my mind, and my strength.
Thank you for your faithfulness because only your faithfulness lasts forever. Thank you for your holiness because only you are holy, and you are also making me holy. Thank you for your enduring mercy because only you can save me from myself day by day.
Daily Surrender:
Lord, I want people to recognize who you really are. When they know you for who you are, they can’t help but worship you. Use me as you wish so they may see your glory and your power. I pray people will see that ONLY you are God, and only you can break through their walls.

Central Passages
Hypothetical Joe helped to put what Dwayne has been teaching this week into perspective. The progression of impressing, inspiring, instructing, and influencing all worked to bring Joe to a place of genuine worship, something he had never before experienced.
Our goal in corporate worship should always be what David wrote in Psalm 34:3: "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together."
We have to learn how to make the people want what we have. And that means, first of all, that we must own what we are trying to sell, and secondly,we have to be able to convince them that they need it, too. And we aren't selling snake oil; we are offering the living water.
My Daily Praise
Thank you, God, for your faithfulness because I have been so unfaithful. In all my years of living in the "pit" you never abandoned me. Rather, every time I came crawling back to you, you were always there, ready to set my feet on the Rock.
Thank you, God, for your holiness, because it is one of the immutable qualities that I can never attain. Your holiness is what makes you God. If you were any less than perfectly holy, you could not be the Almighty.
Thank you, God, for your enduring mercy because without it I would have been consumed. Because of your mercies, which are new every morning, I can be forgiven and restored at any time.
My Daily Surrender
God, far too often, I have been content just to do my thing, and hope that someone would worship you. And though I am not in a leadership position now, I can still do my part to model genuine worship. I only ask that what I am modeling is the real thing, not a synthetic substitute.
Central Passage
I remember being Hypothetical Joanne when I first became saved. I was in college, so I remember my very first service when I was seeking, before I was saved. I don't think I told this story, so I apologize if I have. There were kids there, maybe 20 or 30, and I was standing in the back with my best girlfriend, Aimee. The music started and some of the kids raised up their hands. I leaned over and whispered to my friend "What are they doing?" and she said, "They're raising their hands to God." Simple as that, but that service stuck with me all these years. God used the worshippers, and my friend, to teach me. He didn't necessarily use the worship leaders, although they were an integral part of the service.
You never know who's going to be in the service, or where they are in their spiritual walk. Kind of feels like a tall order, huh? That's why I'm glad I don't have to go at this alone!
Daily Praise
Lord, if it weren't for your faithfulness I would be lost.
Lord, it it weren't for your holiness I would be lost.
Lord, if it weren't for you mercy, I would be lost.
Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness in your promises! Everything you say is already done.
Thank you, Lord, for your holiness. You are perfection and goodness. Thank you for revealing your holiness to us.
Thank you, Lord, for your mercy, as I am flawed, but you forgive.
Daily Surrender
Lord, I was content to stand and sing for a while, but that was partly due to ignorance of what the Bible says about worship. Help me to influence and inspire those I am in contact with when I lead worship, and when I worship in the congregation! You are worthy, Lord, and I thank you for showing me these truths. I am also grateful for the others in this study, as I have learned so much from them, too. Amen.
1. Central Passage
- That is a large task that we have - to influence the congregation. I liked how he broke it down, and showed us that by doing the first three tasks - impressing them, inspiring them and instructing them, we thereby have influenced them in a way that moves them toward worship.
2. My Daily Praise
- Thank you, God, for Your faithfulness because without that, we would be lost. You have provided for our needs in so many ways. When we could not see a way out, Your faithfulness was evident and You met our needs.
- Thank You, God, for your holiness because You are so much higher than me! You are so worthy of my praise because You are holy.
- Thank You, Lord, for Your enduring mercy, because without it, we would be lost. I fall so many times, Lord, and yet your enduring mercy remains, to pick me up when I fall. Thank you, Lord!
3. My Daily Surrender
- This is a huge area where I struggle. I'm not content just leave things where they're at, yet I often times act as I do. I do see it as my responsibility to help the people want to follow us into worship, and I'm frustrated when they just stand there. So, Lord, I do pray that You would use me, and our worship team, to help bring down someone's wall in the congregation this weekend by our influence.
