Interest in keyboard "sounds" discussion

I've been scouring the internet for a place for this and so far, nothing... and I'm not sure it's going on here, either, but I thought I'd at least put this out there and see what I might learn...

I've been looking for a community where we can discuss specific sounds/settings we use for different worship music that works well. For instance, I'm currently playing a Korg Triton Pro and it's been new to me since early summer. Last night we were practicing (at worship practice) "Glory in the Highest" (Chris Tomlin) and I tried out the Hero's Piano setting (Bank C 070 on my keyboard) and the worship team was like WOW! I've done this song previously with them but this really added something that we all liked. So...

Is there a place out there (or in here) that I can find a community to share this kind of into (and more importantly since I'm so NEW at this, learn something)?

Although I am not a keyboard player, I think you found the right place for this. I want to create a similar thread for our new soundboard where we can share effects settings and the like.

Hmmmm although I'm not currently playing a Triton Pro, that's awesome. I love it when we find stuff like that. I figured out a while ago that if you stick a keyboard through a Boss RV5 guitar pedal (it's stereo hehe), you can get some intense stuff out of it. Especially the modulate setting with a rhodes. I'm currently in love with the FantomX stuff. JPstrings seems to be the best pad all around - live sounds guys and mixing engineers have asked where I found it. I replied... "Fantom factory sound haha"... should have tried to take credit for it :-). Also their EP and Piano expansions are ridiculous. Then again nothing's quite like Reason Refills. haha.

I'm on a Triton LE (hate the keys-but the sounds are ok)...

I "direct" from either the Triton (with a laptop to run some loopy stuff) or from my acoustic. Occasionally I play the drums.

As far as doing trippy stuff with the keys, I'm not really into that too much. Not because it's not cool, but we have a small band, and sometimes a good ol' wurly (amp-driven) or EP pad is necessary to just fill in the gaps. Especially, that one Sunday when my guitarist, and bass player didn't show, so it was me, my keys and laptop, and a drummer. But it was fun...

Ian, where would one go about looking for "modules" etc, to begin cranking up the "real" factor of sounds for a midi rig? I'd be willing to look at another piece to hook up to the LE and use it as a controller of sorts, but funds are limited so I have to "build" my keys empire slowly...haha.

We have an LE as well...how do you set up (straight through system, through an amp, etc.) and what are some of your favorite voices? Also, what's the easiest way for us to get some new voices?

Well honestly, the real stuff could be running Reason from a laptop and getting whatever refills you want... they are very big on the real thing. I prefer the Fantom Rack with the expansions. Honestly the Fantom expansions are nothing short of stunning if you make sure you get the ones you actually want. (there are 2 piano ones.. the classical is the way to go hehe). But without the expansions they're nice too, just not ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY SPECTACULAR hahaha. Although FYI I have the Fantom Rack with the SRX 12 expansion (EPs) and thats it. I love UltimateGrand, JPStrings, and PureEP(off the card), and then there's another SoftPad of some sort that's nice too. That plus my Boss RV5 seems to cover most of my needs

One of the cooler things I've seen was at Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL, where a friend of mine, Trevor, used to play keys. There was a guy who had some sort of Leslie control pedal that he plugged into his Roland X-7 to control the organ sounds. This guy could absolutely shred, too. He was an absolute beast.

They were messing around one night with the worship leader "preaching" and Trevor was using this thing to do the "preaching chords" that organists will sometimes use to follow preachers. It was hilarious. A total knockoff of TD Jakes.

I'm honestly not even following half of this stuff (running loopy stuff from your laptop?) but it's an interesting thread. I'm really just looking for people who play keys and can offer different sounds (voices?) that work well for them on different worship songs... but perhaps I'll learn a thing or two from this great sharing

Thanks so much for starting it off ... you've definitely found the place, and just based on the responses, it's cool to see so many people interested in sharing their favorite keyboard patches.

Heh "loopy stuff" = running "drum loops" etc. from my laptop. Haha.

My favorite patch though would probably have to be some of the B3 sounds, I love rocking the organ patches on tunes.

On the Triton LE, the patches aren't the greatest, but they get the job done.
