Default Robbie Seay Band: Give Yourself Away.

Interestingly enough, I first recieved this album because it was given away to me...literally. Thanks to relevant magazine, I heard that The Robbie Seay Band, a band that I first started listening to back in college were giving away, yes GIVING AWAY their new album as part of the promotion for their new release.

Faithful RSB fans will be both thankful that Robbie and the boys have kept that same interesting mix of gritty and smooth guitar tones, the signature Rhodes ambience, and the challenging and uplifting lyrics. Folks new to Robbie Seay will be amazed how he can take a song that talks about social awareness and turn it into a worship song.

You wanna treat your ears to a chilled-out, rocked-out, FREE treat? Head on over to http://www.relevantmagazine.com and pick up your free copy. All that's required is that you sign up for the e-newsletter from RELEVANT which is a great tool to begin with AND the newsletter for the Robbie Seay Band. Don't like newsletters? Cool, do like me and create a special email account that you check once a month specifically for those pesky required sign-ups you have to do.

Peeps, let me stress again that this album is FREE and that I would GLADLY pay full-price for this album on iTunes. Do your ears a favor and download it sooner than later.

I give it and 1/2 smileys our of four

Default No longer free but SO WORTH IT!

So you no longer get the RSB CD free with Relevant but that doesn't matter. Those guys are awesome! Another testament, and I'm thinking this is a RSB choice not iTunes b/c everywhere I've seen it for sale (including iTunes) the CD is only $7.99 for a CD with 13 tracks!

The production is quality, the music is quality, the lyrics, the whole bit! I'm so excited about this CD, it's all I listened to yesterday! Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Default robbie seay

Hi all,
Right now at Worshiptogether.com The Robbie Seay Band is the featured worship leader. You can download the single: "Give Yourself Away" for free on mp3. He also has his sheet music free and his bible study that relates his song writing methods and how his music relates to his bible readings.

its a great resource for praise and worship leaders. chris tomlin matt redmond etc etc have bible studies and free sheet music etc at the site.

www.worshiptogether.com by the way I am not affiliated with the site but am only a member.

I'm going to have to go WAY against the flow on this one, but unlike the time I made the whole world mad by saying that Hillsong United's "All of the Above" was a great rock album but a rather mediocre 'worship' c.d. for corporate purposes, I think that "Give yourself Away" by the Robbie Seay Band is just about an all-around stinker of a c.d.

After repeated listens (I gave it a chance, folks) over several weeks, I can only STAND 3 songs (not that they irritate me, but I find myself bored, and switch to something else), one of which was written by someone else (and I like the original, and Sixpence None the Richer's cover of that song better than Seay's). I love the theme of the c.d., and the heart behind it as well, but as far as originals go, the only two that grab me at all are "Come Alive" and "Can't Go Back". Otherwise the tracks slip right by me - no memorable melodies, or hooks to sink my teeth into.

Now, those two songs are definitely the exception - they're great, and their cover of "Beautiful Scandalous Night" is okay as well, but the rest of it just slips right by me. Am I the only one? Am I just weird?

On top of that, the production seems very 'indie' - the guitars sound thin, and there is so much 'open space' that portions of the c.d. just seem unfinished to me.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Maybe two months from now it'll hook me and I'll eat crow. But right now, I just don't 'get it'.

Wow, I mean...uh...wow. Are you listening to it on anything other than computer speakers?!?
that was a light-hearted joke

Just goes to show certain musical styles aren't for everyone I suppose. Maybe we should have been clearer on what we...let me stop talking in the plural sense, what I found so incredibly AWESOME about this CD. It's weird you say that because this is the one CD I pop back in after listening to everything else and just repeat it over and over again.

Duh, shannon's just disagreeing with us on principle. We're all pop music culture fanatics. Add a couple of sitars and a kazoo to this album and it'd be "delightfully eclectic."

I'm just messing with you, shannon. After reading your review, I passive-agressively fired up iTunes, determined to prove you wrong, but alas, after giving the album another listen, your points are well-founded. A little over-the-top, maybe, but well-founded.

I guess it's just the whole thing that I didn't pay anything for it that got me being lenient on it. I officially retract 1/2 of a smiley from my initial review.

My rating stands at smileys out of 4.
