Default I Am Not THE Worship Leader (and for that matter, neither are you)

Yes, I lead people in song, and on my best days (hopefully, MOST days) I encourage them to sing to God, but that?s not necessarily ?worship?, and at best that makes me a ?lead worshiper? or a (oh, I do hate the nam... (continue reading full article ...)

Default Great Read!

Thanks for sharing your heart with us. It was a blessing to be reminded again of these truths. I have always felt funny about the term worship leader when, in my own eyes, I am the last one that God would want to usher His people in, as we so call it. At the same time though, God has called men and women all over the world to be the ones who lead people in to His presence, not that we are anything special, and not that He NEEDS us in any way, but He has gifted, called, and enabled some to be those inspirer's that will encourage others to go after God with all their heart!

Thanks again!

Thanks man, very good point, we are called by Him. I was just correcting one sense of how the word is used - ultimately, I don't have a problem with the word itself. I only have a problem when someone sees it as my "job" to lead them into God's presence - Biblically, that's already been done by Jesus. When we "LEAD", it's ultimately about what we are leading them TO. I'm encouraging an atmosphere of recognition of what is already true, reminding them of who God is and who they are, attempting to properly stir their hearts to respond - I'm NOT leading anyone into God's presence.

Of course, if I may chime in ... though you hear it often ... I don't think it's about leading people "into God's Presence". It's about "leading people into an act of worship". Typically, in our roles, it's a specific act of worship through music, spoken word, and/or various forms of liturgy.

From a grammatical standpoint, you could say I'm a "worship leader" or "one who leads worship" ... which is the same thing, right?

I can see the angle ... but I'm fine with the "worship leader" title. It's the implied or perceived notions of what some people may think that means that could be the problem.

Why do you suppose we'd be shocked? Seemed to be generally a good overview to me. Would love for you to engage the rest of this series. You may find a lot to agree with, judging by what you've written. Blessings, man!
