Default To haze or not to haze that is the question...

Man we can do almost anything with our lights and get no negative comments. The moment we touch the stage with any haze our people (who are constantly taught, "It ain't about the Sunday show, it is about Monday-Saturday making an impact") cry out "showy, showy."

A few love it and many hate it though we also play jumpbacks, etc on the large screens behind us that is definitely more "visually big."

Funny how people's perceptions are set.

My thoughts are................TO HAZE!

Seriously though, if you have a lighting rig complete with movers, etc and you're *not* using haze, you may as well get rid of them and put up a few PAR64's with some cute pastel gels and forget about it. The effect of the lighting is seen with haze.

Right now we just have a few PAR64's with some gels but we are going to be upgrading that very soon. And within the next 5 years our new building will be complete (with major upgrades to lighting).

But I agree with phil77, haze lets you see the effect of the lighting.

Our easter service was at a convention center this year and we were going to use haze but the fire alarm was so touchy it went off in less than 10 min. good thing we tried it first on Saturday before Easter

Just a side note, there's nothing *wrong* with PAR's at all. I just meant it in the sense that they don't need haze to serve their purpose; movers, OTOH, do need haze to be effective.

^ I agree. I wasnt implying anything either.

No need for the haze if the things just splash on the wall or shine down on the stage.

Since "movers" are sometime called intelligent lights, what if they are programmed/run by someone who is not very intelligent? Are they then called stupid lights?

I'm not sure how "haze" facilitates worship but to each his own in that respect. I don't think I worship any better as a result of haze. Does it really help you?

It's not that haze facilitates worship, haze simply enhances lighting and environment. Ourselves connecting with God in how we live our lives facilitates worship. I'm also a nut for production. I can't get enough of lighting, haze, truss, etc. I love it! That's just what I'm into.

Hahaha! That's funny. I'd like to see a not-very-intelligent person try and operate a Hog Full Boar! That would be great entertainment right there!

I guess that is my question. How does haze help us to connect with God? Also, if you are a nut for production, then can you blame anyone else for calling it such?

To answer the original post, maybe they don't understand how this is supposed to point them to God. It doesn't have to be a big mystery. If there is a particular reason, explain it so they can understand it better. If you can't explain the reasons for it, than is it just for "production" value and then can you blame them for seeing it that way?
