Sounds like its time to make a custom axe with just one neck single coil!!

Funny, but when I first got the guitar I was on the bridge/middle pickups almost all the time. Then one day I flipped up to the neck, spent some time tweaking things and have been there every since. So instead of switching multiple times during a set, I just spend a year or so on each position before moving on.

I've been listening and watching players for years and until this post have never realized how many people use the neck and bridge pickups on strat style guitars. I used to play a Squire strat on the neck for leads and bridge or middle for rhythm, but I don't play that guitar much any more because the pickups just don't sound that great. I have a 2007 Standard Tele which for the price I paid for it has amazing tone. I use the bridge pickup for both lead and rhythm, although, currently I'm plugging a hole in my youth worship band (I'm the 33 year old youth director/band director) as a bass player. I love the Tele with jsut a little bit of distortion and a fat delay to get that U2 Edge kind of tone.

Well...I am thinking seriously about doing a "Lincoln Brewster" (DiMarzio Area 61 in the bridge, Area 58's in mid and neck), BUT...The GFS "64 staggers" are amazing too...and a bit punchier. Then there is the Lace Sensor Blue, and the Lace Sensor Red. My guitar tech raves about the Blue, says the Red is just too hot.

So... I haven't decided yet!

I'm at a similar place. I have CS Texas Specials in my strat and generally like them but am considering changing the very bright/hot/sharp bridge pickup for a SC sized Humbucker. Most specifically a Duncan lil'59.

I don't know much about the Duncan little 59...I couldn't find power specs for it, but GFS makes a VERY similar pup called the "lil killer" which just seems crazy hot - 15K ( they also make it in 6k, and 10k).

I like the look of a sealed cover pickup...Like the EMG select and HZ series, or the Lace Sensor...just looks clean and finished to me, I guess.

One of my Worship Leader buddies plays an 02 MIA Strat with a set of GFS "64 Stagger Overwound" pups, and gets possibly the best tone I have ever heard...and you or I can get that SAME set for about 75 bucks!

the SD site lists the lil 59 as 17k - DC resistance.

on another note, check this out...

YouTube - DiMarzio pickups with cheap Telecaster

seriously considering this combo, twang king neck and fast track 2 bridge, for my tele copy! this just sounds like something you'd expect a gladiator to use as entrance music!

MITS the 17K is a Tele pickup. I'm not sure why it's so much more than the strat version.

thanks for the correction...
tele bridge pups are fairly hot little things to begin with. I still prefer the Dimarzio power rating system, they give the, I believe, mV output in addition to the DC res. And DC res doesn't always indicate power output. If you check their site, you see the standard tele true velvet bridge is a solid 215 output even though its only 7.41k while the true velvet strat bridge pup is 142 output and 6.49k... conversely, if you check out the strat section, the HS-3 is a whopping 23.72k while only being 93 output.
