  • Fast, Upbeat, Energetic Worship Songs?

I lead worship for a youth group and they really like to worship with fast music. However, there aren't many to choose from. It seems most "modern" songs are mid-tempo, 2 verses, a chorus, and a bridge, in the key of B, and very mellow. I like these songs and so do they, but they don't get into them much. Any requests for fast, upbeat, energetic worship songs?
    I have:
    Every Move I Make
    Trading My Sorrows
    Counting on God
    Happy Day
    Be Glorified
and probably a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Fast songs are always the hardest to find!

    Here are some I love:
My Future Decided - Hillsong United
Awesome Is the Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin
    Beautiful One - Tim Hughes
There is No One Like You - David Crowder Band
Here Is Our King - David Crowder Band
O Praise Him - David Crowder Band
Holding Nothing Back - Jesus Culture
All Because of Jesus - Fee

A simple key change will make them more suited to your voice.

I really like Kristian Stanfill's upbeat material. Try Alive & Running and Say, Say.

I have to change the key most of the time because I'm an alto and most worship artists it seems are high tenors. G and E are the main keys I sing in. And yeah the fast ones are hard to find! Well, the ones that don't sound cheesy that is. We do All Because of Jesus in big church on Sunday mornings. I should do that one. And David Crowder is awesome.

I tried Solid Rock one week and it didn't go over very well. And it wasn't just because it was a new song... I'm not sure what happened. They just didn't like it I guess. Everlasting God is a good one. We do My Savior Lives on Sunday mornings as well. I should get that one going too.

          Thanks guys!

Fast isn't always as fast as we think it is. Dynamics play a huge part, so you can probably get away with slower stuff if you've got a real driving rhythm.

Just a tidbit, plenty of songs listed here.

I completely agree with that. And most of the time that's what ends up happening. I like to play with dynamics and contrast, but sometimes speed just can't be changed. I've tried and failed horribly haha but there are ways to make it work.

I'm also an alto and have to do most songs in D or E.

I've been hooked by "In my Heart" from fellowship church lately.

I had to email the church to get the lyrics, as they're not in ccli.

Ditto on all the Fee, Crowder, and Hillsong United. I don't see how any worship leader could get by not owning every album these three artists have produced.

                          Also fast from Hillsong United:
                          - What the World Will Never Take
                          - From God Above
                          - Take It All
                          - Tell the World
                          - Salvation is Here
                          - Everyday
                          - Break Free
                          - Look to You
                          - The Time Has Come
                          - One Way
                          - All Day

                          Lincoln Brewster:
                          - Let the Praises Ring
                          - Everybody Praise the Lord
                          - Today is the Day
                          - He also has rockier remixes of Everlasting God, You Are Good, and All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises.

                          Also, Starfield:
                          - Revolution
                          - Filled With Your Glory
                          - From the Corners of the Earth
                          - Hosanna (faster and rockier than the orig)

Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Our youth are actually really into Jesus Culture, Misty Edwards, etc. If you aren't doing Jesus Culture's Your Love Never Fails, you're seriously missing out. One of the benefits of leading youth worship is that they don't have all the song baggage that some of us older folks have. You could do a rocking version of some 90s Baloche (Open the Eyes of My Heart, anyone?) and it would be a new song to them.

                          Nathan

Amen to the comment about fast vs feeling fast. Sometines you can just double up the beat or strum pattern too.
Ron Kennoly "Call Him Up" is a good fast one as long as you get to the second section after about two cycles.

Also there is one on my new CD that I can send you the chords to called "Beyond Sensational"
                            (on this page) http://www.shoutitoutloudband.com/la...ane_songs.html
youth love the chorus and It's going to begin receiving CCM airplay July 15

We Shine - Fee (i know it's on the Passion God of This City album)
umm.. not sure the exact name - Take It All (i think) - Hillsong United
Sing, Sing, Sing - Chris Tomlin
The Earth Is Yours - Gungor - ok, that's not exactly a FAST song, but played with the right energy is awesome!
                              Brighter Day - Gungor

just a few off the top of my head...
