Anyone here familiar with the song "Say So" by Israel Houghton and Michael Gungor.....
It's one of my new favorite songs!
You can hear it on 3 recent albums...
Moving Forward - Free Chapel (Ricardo Sanchez, Jentzen Franklin, Israel)
For You I Live - Resurrection Life Church (Michael Gungor)
A Deeper Level - Israel & New Breed
We're getting ready to do it at church next weekend......
The other one is "To Know Your Name" off of the latest Hillsong Live Album Saviour King... its amazing!

I was there this year at Forward 07 where Israel and Ricardo Sanchez BOTH did "Say So" song and I'll be honest, musically I hate the verse and the pre-chorus. To me, the only redeeming quality of the song is the chorus.
I haven't hear To Know Your Name yet. I'm pulling up a sample on iTunes now.

I have to disagree, I think the verse is one of my favorite parts...... I love the use of those 7th chords and the melody on the root..... the jazz/gospel feel is perfectly blended with the rock'n chorus....... I think its a matter of style though.....
I heard it was a great conference this year...... who spoke? (Besides Jentzen)

I'll certainly have to check those out .. my bass player, in particular, gave me that "Deeper Level" set and has begged me to pull a couple of tunes .. it would be a refreshing stylisic break from what he calls the "rock, u2-ish Passion stuff that all sounds the same".:D

I don't know if everything out there really sounds the same, but Israel Houghton is certainly a fresh sound.
I personally have a hard time doing a lot of the Passion stuff, not because it sounds bad, but because it just feels boring musically. I am relatively biased though, I am a huge gigantic fan of Hillsong and Hillsong United stuff.........
I just like any song with good bass and guitar riffs...........

Travis, two things:
1st: I should have said "lyrically" not "musically." I love "Say So" for it's driving beat and bass licks, but I'm not into the lyrical composition.
2nd: Forward 07 speakers: Jentzen Franklin, Phil Dooley (Youth Pastor of Hillsong Church), and one of my personal favorites: Ed Young.
I had a great time there!

Ok, I feel ya...... although, I still love the lyrics as well..... but we're all different.
Did you know Phil Dooley is the worship pastor at Hillsong Church now?

Phil, as in the prior Youth Pastor?

Yeah, funny huh?
He doesn't lead worship or anything. But at the start of the year, they made a bunch of staff transitions because of church growth and all that I guess and Phil was put in charge of overseeing the worship and creative arts department because he's an elder and understands the flow of things and all that.
Darlene's still like the head worship pastor and stuff as far as worship leading, service sand conferences go and all that, but she doesn't run so much of the organization and vision part of the team anymore cuz she travels so much and just life change and all that........

Anyone gotten their hands on (or tried their hands at figuring out) any of the chords for any of the songs on Free Chapel's "Moving Forward" yet?
I've emailed around, asking -- but gotten zilch so far.

I own it. It's okay. Nothing to write home about. It's not bad, though. I mean, Israel Houghton led the band and produced it. He even sings on a couple of songs.
