Sounds morbid, right?

Not really, because I want my funeral (not planning on it any time soon, but we all know who holds the timepiece) to be a real joyous occasion. Obviously, this isn't for my benefit, since I'll be at a much grander party, but for those who attend.

There are 2 songs that jump out at me right now as the "what I'd like to say" about my life, or at least a longing of my life...

"My Reward" by Paul Baloche
"When It's All Been Said and Done" by Robin Mark

Anyone else with some thoughts?

I've got two words for you when it comes to funeral songs. It's all I want people to hear at my funeral: "Free." "Bird." Complete with 10-minute guitar solo if you please. :D

I want "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name," Diadem tune.

Also "We Believe" by Steve Green would be good.

But my favorite would be the "Hosanna" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Requiem."

Heck yes, Requiem is amazing!! One of planet earth's all time best musical creations!!

I do love that "When it's all been said and done" by Robin Mark as well...

I think I would like people to really be challenged at my funeral. Maybe it will even be a FUN-eral. I hope that there will be a mixture of friends, family, believers, and nonbelievers there that have somehow been impacted for good by my feeble attempts to love God and love people.

have that for the walk-in. heeheehee!
would really set a mood. maybe not the mood you wanted...but a mood!

for my funeral i have a new favorite.

the chris tomlin "Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone. we did this last week in our services and it was awesome. we actually had people amen-ing (is that a word?) which seldom happens in our services any more (long story).

then i want the oldie but goody "Never Gonna Stop" by tommy walker, one of my all time favorite leaders/singers/writers. the line that says "when the last day comes and goes and time will be no more, I'll be praising You" just says it all for me and i want the crowd to sing it!

now, enough on this morbid thought train. it's friday! woohoo!! have a great day all. :D

I came across a site called caring.com (http://www.caring.com/search?query=funeral+songs) They have a list of appropriate songs for funeral ceremonies.

Lots of good ideas here. These are a few I've thought of - Untitled Hymn being a for sure.

Chris Rice - Untitled Hymn (Come To Jesus)
Chris Tomlin - I Will Rise
Mercyme - I Can Only Imagine

I know this one is a few years old, but I've wanted it sung at my funeral since the first time I heard it: "If You Could See Me Now."
I sang it at my mother's memorial service last year, and it said exactly what needed to be said.

This thread just proves that musicians will talk about, think about, enjoy ANY subject that can weave in music - for me?

Immensities
The Motions
God Bless the Broken Road (I have always heard this as my love song to Jesus)

If you like freebird you should check out "Ride On"
It's a song written for "Pastor Bear" who went home to Jesus. He was an awesome man, a biker who knew about covenant. It's got a rippin' guitar lead! You can hear it on myspace. Google - Brian Atlas Band.

Chorus -
Ride On, Mighty Warrior
The chains of life can't hold you anymore
Ride On, to the Heavens
On eagles wings forever will you soar

I personally don't care what they play at my funeral. Let them pick...I'll be gone. Just make it a celebration and play good songs with lots of rippin' leads!
I think Jesus likes to rock! I want everyone to be served an ice cream sundae!

Not really a subject I have thought alot about, but like most everyone else I want it to be a celebration.

I like the "another one bites the dust" mood setting. I can see my friends and family shaking their heads and saying, "well, that's Jason".

But I think one that I want played is "Jesus Freak" by DCTalk. I strive to have my life's definition to be a Jesus freak, plus it rocks.

I think this is a great thread... :)

I like the idea of a FUNeral... sounds like something I'd like to go to.

I have this memory of a child of going to my great-grandmother's funeral. They helped establish a Southern Baptist church in their community. When she died, I remember standing in the narthex of the church, listening to the congregation start to sing "Amazing Grace" a capella. The doors of the sanctuary opened and we walked down the center aisle. Everyone in the church was standing up and it was if they were singing words of comfort to the family. It was a powerful and comforting moment.

So, I know Amazing Grace will be one of the songs...but maybe the Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone version...

And for you Free Bird fans... It was played at my uncle's funeral a few years ago. Looking back on it, it was totally appropriate for him. At the time, I remember thinking: It's 100 degrees (it was August in North Carolina and a graveside service) and we're listening to Free Bird on a boom box. Awesome...
