What are your favorite songs about the Church or the Body ... and, more specifically, which songs have you used in corporate worship?

I like the Casting Crowns song "If We Are the Body" but the verses are not very congregational.

I love most of Charlie Hall's songs, but his tune "One Body" is a little boring (sorry if that sound offensive).

Anyway, this is one of those topics where my pastor will occasionally say, "What's a good "Church" song?"

So ... any thoughts?

Definitely gotta consider "Let the Church Rise" by Jonathan Stockstill.

My favorite is "The Church's One Foundation."

We've also used "In Christ There is No East or West," which is okay, if less theologically rich.

Phil Keaggy's "Jesus Loves the Church"

More for corporate worship, the sweet praise song "Living Fire"

We've never used either of them. I never could find the music for the first, and the second I only recently found the music. We did some that were less good, but those two are really nice!

"O Church, Arise" by Getty & Townend is a great one, too.

A New Hallelujah (Michael W Smith - chorus espec.)
(Arise, let the church arise - let love reach to the other side. Alive, come alive... etc.)

Make Us One (Twila Paris)
(Make us one, undivided body... make us pure... make us love, etc.)

Since this thread was resurrected, I guess I'll join in...

"Let God Arise" by Chris Tomlin

"The Blessing" by John Waller

"Desperate People" by Hillsong United

Those might seem like liberal takes, but I think of my church and our purpose every time I hear/sing those songs.

Lately for me its been "God of this City", and "Let God arise". I really like "Mighty to save" too, but HATE the arrangement my worship team uses.

Hey Smitty - We're doing Let God Arise this week, and the intro just feels too awkward to me. Do you have any suggestions - or maybe a sound clip of your team doing that song?

I basically left the intro out because it seemed too hollow, and then just played open, ringing chords on the main phrases with some light arpeggiation thrown over the rest as it rides from phrase to phrase. If that makes sense.

Bri:

I'm trying to find a sound file for you. I TOTALLY get what you mean about the intro. We do it in G or A, but mostly in A. I play it compressed with tube overdrive, and just a hint of chorus. Hit the A string open, the octave A on the G string, then the F# and the E on the D string. Listen to the song to get the timing on the fretted notes. Our drummer hits the bass drum like a fast heartbeat, but the intro is all electric guitar. I'll send the file when I find it.
