Hey Guys, here is my TWC song for August

Its entitled "Joseph". It is a look at the Advent from the perspective of Joseph and the steps of faith he took.

Lyrics are there.

I chose to vary the chorus each time around the message in each verse. So it looks like a ton of lyrics but there is a lot of parallelism.

I also used a new process: Noteflight to record a drums/bass backing track with the score, then live vocals and guitar recorded directly into Audacity. I got good synchronization and it was very straightforward, and a much better demo.

As always the goal of this is to improve, so any critique is welcome. Last month I got some good suggestions and ended up improving the song quite a bit.

Something that is rarely studied is Joseph's outlook on all that happened, especially in song. You have done a very good job of putting his likely fears and feelings into song.

I don't have any suggestions for improvement. Thanks for sharing.

Tom, thanks for the listen and the comments. I tried for a bit of a unique perspective.

I see Joseph as having to take a series of steps of faith that really flew in the face of his 'bent' as a man, such as taking a pregnant bride, Taking an expectant wife on a dangerous trip (all travel was dangerous in those days), and finally, letting go when, in those days, children often stayed in the family business. As a father I can relate to some of it (though definitely not to the level of faith that Joseph had to have for his situations). I guess there is a a little bit of speculation as to what he might have felt, but not too far out there I hope. Worth writing a song about I think.

I like it! It's a good creative perspective that hasn't gotten a lot of thought - (If I have to hear "mary did you know" ever again)

One suggestion - if it's a worship song - i'd really think about adding a chorus or refrain that is straight up praise. It a good conversation between the singer and Joseph, with some statements about God. But i'd love to hear like a chorus or something simple - just praising God for His plan or His grace or something like that... just a thot.

I guess I shared your sentiment in that I wanted a fresh perspective.

I had a thought about a refrain to go after the chorus (maybe one time or each time). Something like this, with a melody that fits in there:

His grace to all of the earth
His grace to all of the earth
His grace to all - to all of the earth

If I added this each time it would blow up to over 5 minutes though with the 3 verses. I am on the fence as to whether this is a worship song or a Christmas special type song. I was leaning toward the latter.
