Hi all, jumped on over here after reading one of Shannon Lewis' blogs.

Good to meet all of you and I'm excited to join a community like this! I love discussion forums and I love serving God's Church in the area of music and musical worship.

A few tidbits about me:

I've been in or around the church most of my life. (PK)

I'm newly wed (July 06).

Student/Music ministry is my bag.

I've done the rock band thing, it was fun, hard, messy, exciting, aggravating, and gassy.

I was a Music composition major at Georgia Southern University. Didn't graduate, went into full-time ministry. But, fortunately, I was far enough into my studies to actually claim knowledge in the subject, haha, I have about a semester or 2 of core classes left to grab that degree. Will jump on it when my wife graduates from grad school...

Casual student of graphic design. More of a hobby, but I do make a little cash on the side designing ads for regional Community magazines (print).

I am part of a great church family in Valdosta, called House of Joy (since Aug 06). It is a very family friendly church community, and everything we do on Sunday is very "outsider oriented" - not necessarily a cliche seeker church, but more of a strategic effort to reach unchurched people and to grow, train, and equip those who do cross the line of faith. Our discipleship and "family building" times are built around small, home groups. It is a vibrant place, with lots of new faces and an exciting atmosphere of servanthood.

I was drumming on Sundays until this past Sunday, when we plugged in a young man who is just starting on his faith journey. It was cool, I got to pull back and play some keys and sing some.

Up until July of this year I was a full-time worship "leader" and this has been a regular part of my life since I graduated highschool. So coming to House of Joy and jumping in as solely the student minister and not having any leadership in the area of music was weird. But definitely cool. It's nice to be part of the team, leader or not.

I'm most at home on the piano and singing. But, I also play guitar and drums. I, like Chuck, am a trumpet player. It's been collecting dust since the Southern Pride Marching Band days, but I pull it out for seasonal things and when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Any of you who are in the Southeast, I'd love to get together and do some jam sessions. We have a great venue here in Valdosta, so any of you who'd love to come in and participate in our WORSHIP NIGHTS would be more than welcome. Just ask for more details.

Other than that, I love City of Heroes a (mmorpg aka online video game). I spend too much time in that community. But I love it and it gives me something to do while my wife is studying. I love art. Draw a bit. Paint a little.

Little known facts about me. I love hip-hop. I wrote hundreds of raps when I was younger and occasionally bring them out for fun. Give me a laptop, a cellphone, and the internet and I'm making sweet beats! Ha.

Glad to be a part of this community!
Thanks, Fred, for putting it on.

Russ,
I am at FBC in Jasper, FL, just over the line.
I am in Valdosta all of the time...you have all of the restaurants.

Let's get in touch.

Do you know of any local bands that might like to perform at a back to school rally in August?
