Hmmm..... Recently my choice of Worship music has changed, It has been influenced by on of my friends, teacher, and one of the Best Worship leaders around, Pastor William "Praise Is What I Do" Murphy, III. We are both a part of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship where he serves as our International Worship leader, and this year he brought a totally different sound to the fellowship. Mind you, this fellowship is predominatly African American therefore, the music is predominately "URBAN". Well this year we did a few things that weren't main stream or Urban, but they have quickly become some of my favorites. Songs like;
You Are Holy by,Nichole Binion
How Great Is Our God by, Chris Tomlin
Arise Oh God by, Chip Dixon
Rescue by, Jared Anderson
We also did a remake of Come, Now Is The Time To Worship(look for that on the State of Georgia Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship's first live recording(To be released in August)

I absolutely love William Murphy's stuff. His version of Let it Rise really gets me going! We do it at my church! It must be absolutely amazing to sit under such an annointed artist and minister.

The last couple of weeks i've been waking up to the song "Everlasting God"
Wedid it in church for the first time last Saturday night.
I simply love that thing.
The guitar parts seasoned with the keyboard riffs, and the bass line with the drummer playing quarter beats.
I must say is well written Lyricly "Our God , Our Everlasting God"!
and musically, and with the anointing of the holy spirit?
Oh yeah ! It's an awesome song and my favorite to date.
I think it's Vineyard song.
Oh yeah !
I' m the keyboard player.

Kewl!
I solicite your Prayers. I serve as Worship Leader at greater Victory Christian ctr here in Atlanta, and recently we went through a "transition" in our music ministry. It was not a good one nor was the way it "Went down', a good thing. in a nut shell i've been kinda' thrust into the position of M.O.M(Minister Of Music). I'm not mad about it or anything. I'm happy to server where ever in the kingdom. Nevertheless, the singers and musicians have not been as receptive to the change. With this change have come new ideas, new ways of doing things, new songs, etc. etc. etc. it seems that One of the biggest issues is song selection. They, (musicians and singers) seem to, scof at the songs I've presented in recent days.
For one, I know that i've heard the Spirit of The Lord Clearly when he said "there is A Sound of worship that must come forth"; The sound that will draw, that will heal, deliver and set free. It has been confirmed over and over again. So I've been trying to nurture that sound in our local ministry. i would say in maybe the last two sundays The singers have become a little more receptive and are flowing better in the worship service and our rehearsals. However, the musicians continue to fight me. They play what they want, how they want. It's most of the time very contemporary or "hip Hop" sounding so "Itstead of sounding like WORTHY IS THE LAMB, It Sounds Like WORTHY IS THE JAM" LOL!!!! Like I'll Play a A F# Chord with a B bass and he'll play a E bass.
LAWD HAVE MERCY!!! I've tried talking and reasoning with them and it still hasn't worked. i'm at my wits end!!!!

I tell you my friend change is hard to make in any given band. My own church nis reluctent to change music style. its a tough road. but if you feel God is iven you the green light hen go for it and try to be patient. the other thing is introduce some humour into it. when someone does something you dont want. turn it around and make a joke of it. maybe even let it go through so every body hears how awful it sounds. its a tough road. God bless

Yeah, humor tends to work for me. Now is it an issue of ability or are they just being stubborn? If it's an attitude issue I'd definitely recommend taking those individuals to the side. The last thing you want to do it call them out in front of everyone else. Sit down with them, tell them what issues you have with what they're doing, ask them if they have any issues with you, be prepared to hear somethings you won't like, try to be teachable. I've found that a big part of being a leader is demonstrating teachability. You may be able to turn one of your biggest headaches to your best ally. Let us know how things go.
As a side note I wish I had a team that could play with a "hip-hop" feel. My team is actually pretty good, but don't ask them to play with a little "funk" or "soul". It's all I can do to get the vocalists to clap on time. Don't lose funk, my friend. ;)

I thank God through my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for your leadership
and the gifts He has given you for His service!
Not to long ago i was struggling with some of the worship band concerning arrangements and so forth.
i was even bumping heads with the leader ,who qalso plays good lead guitar.
we were bumping heads every practice til one day the Lord told me that i was going all about it wrong.
He said to submit to the leadership and things would go better for me.
i know it says in prov 6 that one of things that God hates is a person who causes dessension among the brethren.
From experience i know if a particular person is not suppose to be on the worship team, God will move them out.
If everyone on the team is striving for the same thing, worshipping Jesus in spirit and in truth, seeking to see the lost found, and hearts mended, and building the kingdom of God ,you are in one accord.
being in one accord clear across the board,as you submit to the authority that has been placed there by God,you will be working in the anointing.
Mighty things will happen.
After all worship is already going on in heaven, and we are joining in the worship that goes on continueously day and night in heaven.
Worship should be a lifestyle.
I think if you worship as a lifestyle, it shows up in church from the platform.
And go in waves like a mighty ocean throughout the congregation.
God Bless

I am really loving "Alpha And Omega" (Erasmus Mutanbira) by Israel Houghton and The New Breed. I saw it in a video sent to our church and found the song later. I am getting ready to use it in worship. Besides that, "Hosannah" (Paul Baloche) and "You Never Let Go" (Matt Redman) are current favorites of our congregation.

Our youth favorite is Battle Cry (Michael Gungor?). The regular service favorite is either "Grace Like Rain" -Todd Agnew or "Dancing Generation".
My personal favorite is a roudy version of "You Are Good" -Israel H.

My favorite song right now (and one of the best worship songs written IMO) is Chris Tomlin's Glory In the Highest off the See the Morning CD. If you haven't heard this song you really need to. This certainly would be a great congregational song.
