Or doing the teaching, giving the message, preaching the sermon, or whatever phrase you want to use. I say it differently every time, myself.
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the boards...hope it's OK to send out an SOS so soon. My pastor is on vacation tomorrow and I'm doing the teaching. I've done this twice before and really enjoy it, but since I don't do it regularly, it always feels like a big deal to me. I'm teaching on the Cross and confession of sin...just a small little topic. :) On the one hand, I am so honored and blessed by my pastor's trust in me to allow me to speak on the topic...on the other hand, I'm definitely feeling the weight of responsibilty and I want so much to do a good job and convey the heart of God.
I'm also leading worship...it's going to be a full morning to say the least. And I'm still in a fair amount of pain from my knee surgery, so I'll need to be sitting instead of standing, which might be a bit awkward. But I'm sure it's not coincidence that I'll be in pain while talking about the Cross of Christ....
I would greatly appreciate any prayers you an offer on my behalf.
Thanks!
Blessings,
Nina

Nina, I don't like leading from a sitting position, but there were times when I just couldn't stand! The sound guys (bless their hearts) would find me a nice, tall stool with a padded seat, and then, I would be eye-to-eye with the rest of my team.
As far as teaching ... grab that same stool and a music stand (for notes and your bible) and you're on your way. I've taught on worship about 1/2 dozen times, and you'd think it would get easier after the first couple. Nah .....

Yeah, for the past year I've been leading from one of the chairs that the sound guys usually sit in...can raise it up or lower it down. I tried a stool for awhile, but I need the back support. I've gotten used to that. For the teaching, our pastor gets up on a small platform as he likes to see everyone's faces and he wants to make sure everyone can see him. I'll bring a step stool so I can climb onto the platform...but it might be a little odd, at first, to be sitting up there instead of standing. Nonetheless..will open my mouth and trust that all will be well!

Nina,
Awesome - I've done that several times in the past, and although it sometimes feels like "The Fred McKinnon show" when I lead and teach, I try to dismiss that, maybe make a joke about it just before the teaching, and move on ... it's always a blessing, and hey .. at least you know the person bringing the Word will easily flow w/ the worship leader this Sunday, right!?

Thanks for the encouragement and prayers. I think the talk went well, and there was quite a good response in people coming forward for prayer afterward. I'm exhauted and exhilerated...and praising God for His goodness and faithfulness!!!
