After hanging out with Fred and others at our local worship community, I felt obligated to join this thing. It is a great idea!
My name is stated already, so I won't say it again. I lead worship for The Chapel in Brunswick, GA. We're a very young church seeking to draw people to Jesus through Authentic Worship.
My heart for worship is to keep it simple. I think often these days worship gets turned into a production. I believe God doesn't need any dressing up, and if you just be yourself and try get people in the same room with God, He will take care of the rest.
I started leading worship when I was 16, and knew that it was what God wanted me to do the rest of my life. I went to college at Reinhardt College and led worship for the campus ministry there for 4 years. Then I spent 3 years at Porterfield UMC in Albany, GA. Now I'm at The Chapel, and everyday I am overjoyed that I get to do this for a living. In the summers I also lead worship for The Gathering Place (www.thegp.org).
Leading worship for me personally, and as my job, is much more than music. I meet daily with my Pastor to talk about Sunday, what God wants to say, what elements God wants us to use to teach people and lead people, and what music should be a part of it. I don't view my calling being so much about music as it is about developing and discipling people.
On the side I am also an artist with Rebuilt Records (www.rebuiltrecords.com) and enjoy a good blog every once in a while (www.davidherndon.wordpress.com). Stop by for a visit sometime.
Thanks for letting me join. I hope one day to have something worthwhile to contribute.
