The summer months seem to always be a hard time when it comes to planning the schedule for the worship team. Just last night I had rehearsal with my group. I had several people call with excuses for why they couldn't make rehearsals or why they couldn't sing on Sunday. This can be very discouraging as a leader. Especially when you are charged to raise up leaders. It can be difficult when those that need the training are always absent. Well we had a wonderful rehearsal and I was able to impart much from the Holy Spirit.

I have done some things to keep myself encouraged. First of all I try to spend as much time as possible preparing myself spiritually by getting alone and worshipping God. Yesterday I decided to just sit and be quite; no cell phone, no computer, not even the ipod; total silence. I experienced the peace of my heavenly Father. After that I took the cell phone put it in my office. I don't receive calls before rehearsal. As many of you know you can get almost 10 calls, all expressing reasons why they can't make it to rehearsal. So I just set an atmosphere to worship regardless of who was there. The Holy Spirit is my guide. Even though I had an agenda to get through, it never fails that God shows up and gives me all the time I need because of making Him the priority.

Rehearsal Agenda:
Band Rehearsal - Training on playing choral scales
Ran the list

Choir joins us
open in prayer
Had a wl lead us (testimony/sang Heart of Worship/prayer)
The worship lead us to interceed for others
Announcements

Still made it out in a timely manner

Band is at 6 and choir is at 7 we let out at 8:30.
I am just impressed when we leave the rehearsal in God's hands, it doesn't matter who shows up as long as God is there, He will make everything work out.

I send this to encourage leaders. I have been in this position for a long time and I know there are many people who get very discouraged. Just keep pressing into God's presence for your rehearsals. Remember it's more so about the heart than it is the art. I am praying for you all. Thank you.

Cory,
this is an awesome post ... I'm the same way .. when those phone calls ring just prior to rehearsal, I'm thinking "o brother" ... and it typically lends to frustration .... not worship.

thanks for the perspective - it's fresh and good!

Cory, it's challenging when people call you at the last minute telling you they can't come to practice - even worse is when they DON'T call you, and you've got parts specifically designed for them.

I've learned that relying on the Lord to show up (He ALWAYS does) is a whole lot better than relying on people to show up.
