For the month of March I'd like to encourage you to write a song based on:
Ephesians 1:15-22.

As you write keep in mind the goal of this exercise is to stretch yourself as a writer (NOT TO WRITE A HIT WORSHIP SONG).

Honestly, I'm at a point now where I know that if we write the greatest, catchy songs but don't truly have an ongoing, growing relationship with Jesus, then it's pointless. So, I'd also like to encourage you to STUDY the book of Ephesians this month as you're writing this song.

Dig into it. Don't just write a song. Write an experience.

I don't want to get on a soapbox too much, but this is such a great group of folks here at TWC and I think if I didn't challenge you to continue to learn and grow in studying the Word, I'd be failing you as a friend.

It's not a requirement, but it's definitely something I'll be doing this month. Digging into Ephesians through studies, commentaries, and just plain old mediation on these scriptures.

Are you with me?

Song Guidelines:

1) You can use ANY part of Ephesians 1:15-22 (just remember to list the verse references you use specifically).
2) Your song can be of ANY variety, though I'd like to focus on writing songs for use in a corporate setting - so keep in mind singability, catchiness, hook, wordiness...
3) Record your song. I just sing directly into my laptop mic with a guitar, so no fancy recording is necessary.
4) Share your song (and appropriate links, lyrics, charts, etc) on this thread. PLEASE USE SOUNDCLOUD.COM (http://www.soundcloud.com) TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC (If you don't mind).
5) We'll ALL listen, offer feedback and help make this song usable.
6) We'll all pick a song by ANOTHER user and try and incorporate it into a worship gathering (if possible). Please go back into the February songs (labeled TWCSW Feb and try and incorporate one of them into your worship sets this month) also make sure the author(s) knows!!

There is no deadline (but try and get your songs up by mid March at the latest so we can offer feedback and help you craft the greatest song ever!!

Happy Writing!

If you want to submit a song go ahead and let us know in THIS THREAD but link to a separate thread specifically FOR YOUR SONG.

Label it: TWCSW March Name of Song

TWCSW = The Worship Community Songwriters

That way we can keep track of individual songs, and those who have committed to being a part of this assignment, can add feedback as well.

Join the TWC SONGWRITERS GROUP if you want to participate! (http://www.theworshipcommunity.com/forums/groups/twc-songwriters-group.html)

THats a tough one. Got any tag lines that you're working on? I could use a nibblet or two to get me started. Ofcourse, I'm reading this at work and can't meditate on the message.

*Faith and love do not earn us participation in this great work of God. They are evidence of our participation in God’s plan.

*Paul gave thanks not for their love for God, but for their love for all the saints. The real evidence of God’s work in us is not the love we claim to have for Him, but our love for His people that others can see

WOW! This is a great passage. Paul is a HUGE encourager to the church. Here's a thought: Most worship songs praise/thank the Lord for all he's done for us. How many praise/worship songs give thanks, or encourages those who serve in the church? Of course, thanking the church by no means belittles what God does through His church. Are there any praise/worship songs written to thank those who choose to serve Christ in His church? Just a thought.

Actually, I am still wrestling with Feb - but there is enough of a kernel of something happening, that I am going to keep plugging - anyone care if I post it in March or April? HA! (seriously, though ....)

Thanks to all who have submitted so far!

It's not too late! I'll be finishing up mine for March tomorrow. And hopefully capturing some audio as well.

Keep writing!

This song fits the Ephesians challenge excpet it is not a new song. It's one I wrote a few years back. Probably doesn't fit the bill challege-wise but please give it a listen and give feedback. We actually sang it congregationally and the people really seemed to like it. It's on SoundCloud.com and it's called Passion Flame. I wasn't sure how to imbed the link. Anyone who can help would be appreciated.

Kevin, to embed your link, you can do it 2 ways: copy the address from your soundcloud page and paste it anywhere on your post, or look at all the symbols directly above where you are posting; one of them will say "insert link" when you put your cursor over it. Click on it and it will give you a place to post it.

When you post your song, the best place to put it is on the "Song Center-Share Originals, Collaborate" page. Just click the "new thread" button and go from there.

For the record, not that it matters, this is the March 2010 page, not this years. But please post your song, anyway.

The 2011 songwriters forums are under a different heading, TWC Songwriter Challenges 2011.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the songwriters forum. Glad to have you join us.

That's funny...I saw this and I was thinking, "Wait, what about the Mark passage? Which is it, this one or the other?" :p If you'll allow me some nostalgia, I think March is like, the month before I found The Worship Community. I can't explain how much this site has helped, matured, and changed me, for the better...for God.

Blessings, all.
