We use digital in both of our rooms now. In our new building we are 'resorting' back to analog in our youth theater and our children's theater. In our main sanctuary we are going digital again, Yamaha M7CL48. Cost is the only reason we are going back to analog in the other rooms. I was able to get nice Allen & Heath 32 channel boards and Presonus & TC Electric processing for less than an LS9 from Yamaha so I had to jump back down.

Digital didn't really make sense in children anyway. We have a large sound demand in their but it is drama and prerecorded tracks for them, so we don't make a lot of changes or use a lot of snapshots even now.

I would love it...right now we use a 32 channel behringer board...digital is a little out of our budget scope

Well, I would say go to our blog and check out our tech clean-up. http://betterthanblank.org/?p=213

We put in our just "repaired" Allen & Heath GL3000 40 channel analog board back in. We found out the hard way that it actually is not repaired. So, we originally had our Midas Venice 320 32 channel analog board in there which is SO AWESOME. The only problem we had was that it didn't have enough auxs for our AVIOM rig. Well, I think we're going to put her back in and use the direct outs. We just put in our Aviom personal mixing system so we're half way digital. We also use Presonus DSP's for our limiters and gates. For our monitor wedges we run I think a QSC and Crown amp. Could be wrong there. Eventually, we will be going to all in-ear with about half wireless.

As far as our Aviom rig, we have:
AN-16/i-M Mic Input Module
A-16D Pro A-Net Distributor
A-16II Personal Mixer (4)
A-16R Rack-mount Personal Mixer (3)
A-16CS Control Surface for A-16R (3)

All of which is run on a Cat5e backbone.

We really want the Yamaha M7, but are more in the price range of the LS9. Since I will be deploying, our Creative Arts pastor is a little more timid to go full digital. Till then, we'll stick with our Venice. Hopefully when I come back we'll be in the new building and ready to make the full digital move.

Hey, for what it's worth - I always used Direct Outs for the aviom EXCEPT for a handful of things I'd submix into an aux .. I'd use maybe 2-3 auxs total for the Aviom ... typically, everything was direct except:
Submix all drums to Aux 1
Submix all BGV's to Aux 2 (except vocals who may have a dedicated lead)

If you have several handheld/lapel, etc, they can be submixed - just be sure your aux is set to Pre Fader.
