Well guys, Fred actually got me turned on to this GREAT resource for worship leaders, but what I really wanted to discuss was the worship leader's Song DISCovery CD that's included with each monthly copy. Usually I find the Song DISCovery CD to have a handful of good songs, but this month (July 07) is a GOLD MINE!!!
I strongly encourage you to invest in this incredible resource that has some great articles and is a great way to keep your fingers on the pulse of what's going on in worship.
Thanks again to Fred for pointing this out.

Speaking of SongDISCovery, I'm T-minus 36 minutes from hooking into their $39 Training .. today, I'll be doing songwriting review/critique w/ Phil Silas, Andy Park (Vineyard), etc ... looking forward to it - it's my first time on this "Webex" training platform, and it's supposed to be done on a PC (cough, cough), so I'm hoping my Mac can handle it w/ Parallels Desktop!

I subscribed to SongDISCovery a couple of times over the years, and every CD that I'd get usually had a couple of songs that I would select for worship at my church. There were great articles in the magazine by people who I respect, and there was plenty to learn from them.

I love these CD's. they have some great music and most is good for the congregation. I usually find 3-4 golden nuggets on them.

Hey -
It was part of WorshipLeader.Com's training/education series. It was amazing (though they ripped up my song pretty bad) ... I hope to blog about it today after I finish w/ some meetings ...

I must be honest and say I really don't like Worship Leader all that much. I'm going to subscribe to Song DISCovery for a year to try that out, but the magazine kind of leaves me cold. I much prefer Worship Musician. There is so much in WL that really doesn't apply to a small church that isn't caught up in the worship wars and doesn't have a huge budget for high tech this, and cutting edge that. Too many advertisements and articles for "You must have this thing to make your worship soar!" I refuse to get caught up in the "need" for bells and whistles. My son just returned from a missions trip in Africa where people would worship with 2 djembes and that's it. No lyrics on a screen, no cool videos, nothing. And their worship was deeper and more sincere than probably most of what goes on in America on an average Sunday morning. Oops...I need to get off the soapbox, and fast!
Anyway...I'm going to WL's big conference in Austin soon and I'll be interested to see how much will truly be about training in worship leading, and how much will be pushing the latest and greatest things.
Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just weird? (Don't answer that!)
Blessings,
Nina

Nina,
I've never received Worship Musician (although I just paid a nice price to have TWC email ad sent to their subscribers ... is THAT how you heard about us!??) .. but I hear it's an awesome publication and I intend to subscribe shortly!
i've not gotten that vibe from Worship Leader personally - I've been a subscriber for as long as I can remember and have usually found something worthwhile in every issue. True, lots of ads, etc., but that's how they pay the bills ...
I am still "on a limb" as to whether or not I'll get the greenlight blessings from the "powers at be" (that would be my pastor, my admin pastor who pays the bills, and my wife!) on whether I can make it out or not to Austin - if so, I'll look for ya!
