I am the music leader and one of 2 deacons at a small church in Stephens City. Normal attendance right now runs about 25 per Sunday. We are a parish in the Central Diocese of the Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC).
I play keyboard at church, and there are 2 guitarists (both acoustic) who help out.
I had about 8 years of piano lessons, and I am currently taking voice lessons to improve my lead singing.
CEC churches are required by our canon law to utilize blended worship, so I have been working on that in the last year since I became the music leader. We usually do about 3 hymns and 3 praise songs in each service.
My personal tastes run to Gregorian chant and pre-1900 hymns, although I like a lot of the music that Sovereign Grace has put out in the last 10 years. I am not a big fan of much of the Christian music of the 1970s and 1980s, but many in our congregation (including the guitarists) like it, so we are incorporating some of those songs.
My passion (or some might call it my soapbox :) ) is to ensure that the music we use is theologically sound, and that a majority of the songs we sing are focused on God, rather than me or my feelings.
I look forward to looking around the forum!
