Hey guys, we had a very interesting worship service yesterday. First, our lead guitar player is out of town on vacation so we have a substitute that is supposed to be filling in. Second, I get a call Saturday night before rehearsal from the substitute who tells me that he just sliced his finger open and can't tie his shoes so forget about playing guitar! Third, I find out that the keyboard player is out of town as well (supposedly I was told about this ha ha). So now we are down to myself (lead vocals/drums) and our bass player as well as two other singers. Since our God is so awesome and knew all of this was going to happen way before I did, my brother-in-law (who happens to be an amazing guitar player) was in town and able to fill in. It was down to a 3 piece, but it was awesome!

Middletown is a little over an hour outside the city. It takes me about 2 hours to get to LI, but that's only b/c of the nasty traffic! Where is Middletown RI located? I worked in a church in Smithfield RI while in college.

Our worship team has also went through many service with people out .It always makes it more interesting . Our Church is a nice size so we have a few back-ups and some that are multitalented .We play mostly Christian rock and our service are very alive .
But , to be on the safe side , I suggested to my worship leader , that we should practice just an acustic set for times when people are out . BTW our back-up Drummer is an 11 year old boy that is awesome . Shows that God can use anyone age , race ,or size .

Having a backup acoustic set is a great idea. We had to do that 3 weeks ago when we had mic problems with the drums. I had to switch to hand percussion in between songs. I agree with you that God can and does use anybody. We have a kids band called Cleared For Takeoff that leads worship for a couple of our services. The guitar player is a 15 year old that I came this close to calling up Sunday morning. He is not quite ready for the leap to our band just yet.

Yes I am. I write the lyrics and melody and then the band works out all the arrangments. We started getting a lot of requests from people in the church who wanted to have copies of the original stuff we incorporate into worship. We decided to record those 3 for now and do some more at a later time. The last one on there "Wakeup Screaming" is obviously not a straight ahead worship song. That was built off a riff our guitar player was jamming at practice combined with a poem I had wrote years ago. That one was recorded in my humble home studio. The other 3 were recorded at a local studio.

I had a pastor once who had a church in California. He had a worship team that had some serious problems, so he basically canned them all and went with a single acoustic guitarist who had a 'rough" voice.
The really great part of this story is that this guy, pretty much a novice on guitar, and not much of a singer, led worship for a thousand or so people, and because he had a real heart for God, and led people into the Holy of Holies.
It's not the number of hearts on the worship team that count ... it's the hearts of those in the number.
Skill is very important, but not as important as the hearts of those who worship. I used to tell my worship teams all the time that there's a filter between here and heaven, and that somewhere along the line, sour vocal notes and lousy guitar riffs get transformed to be a sweet aroma to God.

Where i live is a musicians heaven .But you have to be good , there is many local band around . We also have many home studio's . We have a lot a little rappers running around here buying home studios , there actuly good . Back when I played in a secluar band we recorded often . Only thing now that Im saved many of my old friends won't touch that . So we have a great sound board and effects board and other stuff at our church and I looking at a tascam x48_dw . It will hook right in to our set up . I have a few sound guy hours under my belt and Ive worked on recordings often , so I believe that will be perfect for us to be recorded .

Great example Tony! It shows a fine example of someone with a Heart Of Worship. I believe that as leaders we should have these qualities;
1. Desire to serve God
2. Desire to serve others
3. Willingness to learn
4. Talent
I believe that if #1 and #2 are present #3 will fall in line and God will supply all the #4 we need.
