Hi all,
I thought I would say hello. My main instrument is the flute (and I am a guy- just wanted to make that clear). I have been playing for about 20 years now (started when I was in junio high band). I was part of various marching bands as well and got to travel the world- well, ok, I got to go to England and a few places in Canada. In Bible College, well, I had to learn to sit on a chair again (come on now- why not a Bible College Marching Band!!!). I was able to travel a little bit during college (longest trip was to San Francisco which was pretty good since we were in Abbotsford, BC).
Now, I am married with a little girl. We attend a nice "gym" church where I do play. I do more improvisatation than anything else as I find it adds some spice to the music. Looking forward to hear from other wind players and what they are doing.
Thanks
JavaJ from Calgary

Hey,
Welcome to the forums. I love to hear a good flute player with tasteful improv! I use a guy named Carlos Torres (www.carlostorres.com (http://www.carlostorres.com)) when I do recordings and he's amazing!

I had a flute player on one of my worship teams, and she could improv like crazy. She really shined at worship time, when there was a lull in the singing, or when there was a time of "selah" ... it was just beautiful!

And she used to STAND during worship! Nothing wong with that!

Hey there! I'm a clarinet player. I also play pennywhistle (and flute, when I can manage it) and piano. Clarinet is my main thing, though. I've played since the 5th grade which was, ummm, about 26 years ago. ()

Do you struggle with feeling like you fit in? Our instrumentation is, currently, piano, keyboard, drums, 2 guitars (1 electric, 1 acoustic), saxophone/flute, trumpet, another clarinet, and sometimes a trombone (when our music minister can make it over to the band). I just sometimes feel like I'm playing the non-coolest instrument there. :( Maybe if I had more confidence to improv.

glad to hear i'm not the only guy flutist out there... started when I was 9 (am 24 now) classically trained but play pretty much everything.. growing up on the east coast of canada, celtic music is a big part of my life, so the flute works great there.. i play a bunch of other stuff too, but guitar and flute are my favs.
