I have an imac with garageband and also Cubase LE. What pieces of equipment do you suggest for a good starting point? I have the instruments, I just need that missing link in the chain between my guitars and my mac.

the lexicon Omega is real nice or anything from Maudio with a firewire will work

I've heard of the Lexicon piece before, but I don't know anything about maudio. Can you name some models?

sure try this one...they have many different levels of interfaces...and they make great gear.

Lexicon and MAudio are both good.
For our mini-studio at the church for little overdubs and whatnot, we use a Presonus Firepod, 8-channel line/mic inputs, firewire. Sounds good, works well.
For the studio at my house, we use an M-Audio Octane.
Good times.

There are some really good sites that talk about the various hardware interfaces. Doing a google search will turn up allot. There are also allot of user groups for each of the various interfaces. Look them up.
My final choice was between the Firepod and the Mackie Onyx.
I went with the Mackie because I liked the simplicity of the software that came with it (Tracktion2)
I sure it has changed in the year since I searched.
Good luck.

Congrats Randy ...
And the beautiful thing is ... Google/yahoo spiders are slurping up all the content here by the minute ... so in the future, somebody else will find (in addition to all those other usergroups, etc), an answer to that question RIGHT HERE on TWC!

Well...all of you have given me some pretty good ideas...now, if that money tree I planted in the back yard would just start to bloom...then I'd be set.:D
Seriuosly...something like this may go on my Christmas wish list, as my wife and I have put in some major $$$ doing home impovement stuff, I just could not justify something like this right now...give me a few more months and I'll be good to go.

Hey, this is a great thread. I am about to venture into computer recording myself in the next few months and have some of the same questions. When I got into recording way back in the 70s (wow I'm old!!) everything was done in a studio with a big board and a couple of Ampex 2" 16 track recorders. I absolutly love the idea that you can now record songs in your own home studio that sound as good if not a little better than some of those old studios. I guess my main question is this: I have looked into 2 different programs, Pro-tools and Logic Express. Are either of those any favorites of any of you out there? Any help from you all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

I just picked up the July issue of Electronic Musician and I think I found something. It's the Ultralite http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite/ looks pretty cool. Anyone know about it?
