A couple of Sundays ago while Leading the congregation in Chris Tomlins new song " Jesus Messiah " I started thinking about the maintenance work I had to do on my car and not only forgot the Words but added other words in its place. Its a good thing The congregation had a sense of humour.
Care to share your Bloopers??

That's really funny. I can't even imagine what might have come out! "All my hope is in... Pep Boys?" It could have gotten ugly quick, eh? Thank God that some people realize we are, in fact, human.

Yea they were laughing. I was a little embarrassed. But it was all in good fun.

One time I asked for offering a second time. I was speaking about how we should be graciously giving while the speaker was trying to tell me that they had taken it up in the first bracket of songs.

I do not know if this qualifies as a blooper or not but a wrote an arrangement for "I Surrender All" and wanted to play it the following Sunday as a special. I did not think to tell the pastor ahead of time...
So the arrangement had some pretty nifty chord substitutions and since our church is a more traditional hymn singing church it took until the chorus before the words sunk in... I started singing "I Surrender All..." and I get a giggle from the pastor... you see, we do specials during our offertory and for some reason that song choice was especially funny to her on that day...
I have never thrown a surprise her way again, although I believe that it was this moment that cemented our relationship.

We were doing MercyMe's Word Of God Speak one Sunday and instead of singing "the last thing I need, is to be heard" I sang "the last thing I need is to be with You" which got some strange looks from the team. No one in the congregation mentioned it though, either they didn't catch it or they were just being gracious! :D

I lead from the guitar, and a couple times I have started a song with the intro to a different song...had to shut it down and start over. Keeps ya humble.

Just started serving at a new church (very traditional), but I am to lead the way into a more "blended service" (whatever that is). So about the 3rd Sunday I thought leading the invitation with a guitar would be neat and different. (Ive done this many times at former churches.) However, the pianist apparently had never played with another instrument during service so it basically fell apart. It phased BAD! I think he was still on the verse while I was on the chorus.
Needless to say, it was terrible and the people who needed convincing that moving toward a more "blended service" weren't impressed at all. Very humbling indeed!
I know one thing though, and I knew this already... I will go through EVERY song with the pianist... completely... in the future. Should have done this anyhow, but they are used to just picking out hymns 15 minutes before service and banging it out on the piano. Slowly... things WILL CHANGE. LOL

The best one I have is not even mine but belongs to our current worship leader. In his first WL position, he started the prayer time by saying, "God, we thank you for this food ...". He says his team teased him about that for years after!
My worst one is when I had the lead on a song intro and I started playing the wrong song. No way to blend it into the right song, segue, or anything like that. Just had to stop and start over - with a smile on my face, of course!

I've had quite a few, a lot involve breaking strings which i went through a phase of doing almost every week, even with brand new strings...but one of my worst or best maybe was at a youth weekend away and the person who had been leading the session asked if we could play our god is an awesome god at the end of it (he asked us about a minute before the speaker finished the session) and i was like yeah that'll be fine so the pianist starts it off nice and gentle and instead of singing our god is an awesome god i sing our god reigns by delirious.

We've had plenty of forgotten capos to lead off a song. Our keyboard guy last week forgot to hit the right transpose button on his keyboard - keyboard in D with guitar in B (and me trying desperately to transpose the sheet in front of me down a minor third) is a train wreck.
A few years ago when I was typing out the PowerPoint slides right before the service I made an unfortunate typo - the slide on the screen asked the congregation to "worship Chris." I took a lot of ribbing for that one.

That would be particularly bad if your name was Chris! :D

Every time there is a 5th Sunday in a month, our church has the tradition of doing a good old fashioned Hymn Sing. They love to request their favorite hymns and I've noticed many of the people have their finger in the page they want before the service even begins. I can sightread pretty well and know most of the hymns already, but every so often someone picks one that I have never even heard of, and last weekend it was written in Db... I thought I could transpose it on the spot to C and did, until we got to the end of the first verse and I realized I didn't actually know how the song went... and unfortunately they weren't singing strongly enough to carry the tune, so then I had to stop and say, "I'm sorry, everyone! Can we rewind and try that again?!" They stared at me in shock (because they think I can play ANYTHING -so now I'm off my pedestal!), then had a good laugh, and I played it in D (I know, duh!), which worked much better. Whew!

It should be illegal to write anything in Db! I am afraid to learn notation. If I did, I would be expected to do what you had to do, Sky.

worst one weve had... our team plays to a click track (which is set by the drummer pre-song) well..the first time our team played "from the inside out" by hillsong united our drummer accidntly set the click at almost double time.. i at the time was playing lead guitar new to it all panicked bc i thought if i pulled my in-ear out and played it like it was suppose to be played our drummer wouldn't catch on and would try to "coax" me onto the click.. so i went with it... DANG! it sounded like a punk song!! believe it or not our whole team pulled it off.. thank God it was the last song of the set!! after church was over one of our "helpful congregational members" approached us and told us to never do that song again bc it was too wordy and too fast to keep up (not knowing how the song was suppose to sound) THANK GOD FOR GRACE!! haha

I cussed. From stage. While leading worship.
I was setting up a powerful song that related to Isaiah 6 so I was explaining what happened in Isaiah's heart as he saw God as King on the throne. It was something along the lines of, so you've got this badass king, Uzziah, who... It took a few more lines to realize what I had said and why everyone was giving me this smirky blank stare. Luckily, everyone was forgiving of the moment.
