Wildwind

My name is Greg Miller (Wildwind is my posting name). I’m an old guy by the calendar (54) but haven’t grown up yet. I think that would only hurt my guitar playing! I certainly don’t play like an old guy…
I’ve played guitar, mainly electric, for 40 years, nearly all of that in Christian venues. I’m a former professional who is still active as a worship and studio guitarist. I gave up touring some years back when the Lord called me into dedicating my music to worship, something He and I went round and round about for a few weeks. As usual, He won – and now this music fills my soul like no other!
My past includes several Christian bands, big-name concert promotion, street ministry, and coffeehouse ministry. Main guitar influences are too numerous to mention beyond these few: Keaggy, Brewster, Carlton, Lukather, Huff, Pierce, dozens of studio players whose names I do not know, and the usual bunch from the 70s and 80s – Clapton, Page, and the rest. The result is sort of a Keaggy/Brewster/Lukather mishmash – which fortunately works very well for worship!
I play lead guitar on a very dynamic worship team in East Lansing. Our team consists of acoustic guitar, three keyboards, bass, and drums. Our WL is very strong and keeps us fresh with new music and great equipment. He also uses a lot of loops and is getting stronger with each one. Pretty soon he won’t need us! In fact, he’s done some complete tracks for churches that want to worship but don’t have any musicians.
I’m an equipment freak and guru, particularly within the confines of worship music – especially playing direct into sound systems. I love to consult on gear, techniques, and tones and dearly love working with other lead guitarists to accelerate their learning and/or increase their own enjoyment and satisfaction.
This forum is very exciting – I look forward to interacting with each of you and learning and growing together.
