While I was working through some Scriptures for a cell group where I wanted to speak about church I stumbled over verses like:

Matthew 5,16: In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

1.Peter 2,11&12: Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

John 17,22&23: I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Deuteronomy 4,5-6: See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

2.Corinthians 6,16-18: What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

So far, I think there would be more like these.
But here is what I was thinking about: We pray so much for revival. And at least I got the impression in most places that we think that it has nothing to do with us, but just with God's grace to touch our places. And the only think we can do is to pray for it.
But when I read such Scriptures like those above, I think that God gave us some very practical things into our hands with those we can work on revivals on the earth.

He says that we should do the good deeds that he prepared and let our light shine THAT the people may glorify the Father in heaven. And I believe that is what happened in the first chapters of Acts.

He says that we should keep the commandments he gave AND the people around will praise God's people for their wisdom. It will influence the world around us.

He says that we shall be in unity as the body of Christ, THEN the people will see that JEsus was sent by the Father and He also promised in his word that where is unity there he will command His blessings.

He challenges us to live a life without compromise and to be cleansed by the ways of the world. This will let the light of heaven shine.

I wonder on what the church puts it concentration and strength...or maybe it is just in Germany that the church misses something.
How much compromise do we take because of the ways of the world that we are used to and we say we can't see things so black and white and we must understand this or that. Paul said: Step out.
Do we chase after peace and love with each other. It is in our hands to forgive each other. It is a decision (of course our emotions need some time to heal again, but the act of forgiveness is just a decision in obedience to God's word).
How eager are we to follow and obey the Spirit in the Word of God. Or are we saying too often "oh, I will start tomorrow or when the circumstances are much better".
Is our concentration on the Kingdom of God or on our own lives and we give a part of it into the Kingdom.

Are we giving everything that is in our ability to create the platform for God to pour out his blessing.
I know that only God can touch people's heart, but after these Scriptures I believe that He gave a big part of responsibility into our hands to build such platforms that it can happen in higher levels like we read in Acts.

What do You think?

I think we need to do what God says. There is stuff only He can do, but the stuff we can do... we need to do. Unequivocally. Totally. Whole-heartedly. We need a radical obedience that cuts through the flesh.

Forgiveness has been much on my mind lately... I'm having to deal with fraught relationships amongst kids at school and I've been considering how I can best help them. I have reached the conclusion that if we profess to love God, then we have to love each other as well; we have to forgive each other; we have to show compassion and mercy if we want to see those things in our own lives.

I am praying that God will show these kids that there is no other way: nursing grudges and holding on to bad feeling will hinder God's work in their lives.

I've just been listening to Tim Hughes's 'God of Justice'.

'You have shown us what You require
Freely we’ve received
Now freely we will give'

I think we need to do what God has shown us first and foremost!

I was watching a sermon online a couple of weeks ago and it was one of the best sermons I've ever heard in my life! The guy was talking about true revival and "having revivals". (I just think it will tie in to what you said!!!)

When the last great reformation took place, it began with a small number of people being faithful, meeting with God to pray, being obedient to His Word, and consistently teaching... It was the Holy Spirit who swept in and worked in a mighty way!
Toward the end of that reformation, some key figures came into play, and while they meant well, actual 'revival services' began... Basically mankinds lame attempt at conjuring what should be happening naturally through the Holy Spirit (thus the lengthy altar calls, emotionalism, 'scare tactics' etc. began to sneak into the church, thereby negating true radical, life changing conversion and instead often bringing an increase in numbers but not true life reformation!)

So what we need now is TRUE revival (reformation) from the Holy Spirit brought about by faithfulness and breaking out of the "country club" mold that so many churches have gotten themselves into, and becoming real, in love with Jesus, and changed!!!!

And it's exciting to hear (read... whatever  ) other people talk about it too!

I travel quite a bit since the year 2002....visiting 200 congregations last year and 2 trips to Europe, one trip to Israel.

I have seen the most amazing church in the world...and it's in Tuebingen Germany. http://tos.info

I honestly believe that a real revival is happening in the south and east of Germany (sorry but I don't see the same thing in the north yet) that will touch the world before it is over.

I am so convinced of this that TOS has become my "home" church though they are 7 times zones to the east of me. I've been arranging meetings for their Pastor all over America for the last 3 years and would LOVE the opportunity to bring him to every church in America.

The real secret of their spiritual authority is that this church requires everyone over 18 to take a 3 hour shift of prayer in their 24/7 prayer center. Under 18 is only required to do an hour. After that, the motto of this church is "delayed obedience is disobedience"

All are welcome in their church but you simply are not counted as a member if you don't willingly participate in the prayer ministry.

This little church of 230 people has 16 long-term works going into 8 nations worldwide...and they change every nation the go to.

As of last year, they have come to America.

Oh yes, I know that church. My parents were there some years ago at a conference. This is more south of Germany.
Right now we are listening to some sermons of another conference of 4 years ago of them. We think of inviting Jobst Bittner to our church to teach us some things where he has insight already.

I read a book about the revival in Wales under Evan ROberts a hundret years ago. It's written by Rick Joyner and called "The World Aflame: The Welsh Revival and Its Lessons For Our Time".
He writes there that Evan Roberts always preached 4 principles that he thinks are the foundation to receive revival at all.
These are:

1. Every sin has to be confessed before God and You need to repent from it. The church must be purified - the bride of the Lord must be spotless pure so there will be no room for compromises with sin. If there is anything in our life where we have the tiniest doubt if it is good or bad - throw it away!

2. There should be no cloud between the believer and God. Have we forgiven everybody? If not, then we can not expect forgiveness for our own sins. The Holy Scripture is clear about this, we can not receive forgiveness as long as we not forgive others. And it seperates us from God when we are irreconcilable.

3. We have to obey the Holy Spirit and do what he forces us to do. Immediate and quiet obedience to the Spirit of God without asking questions is necessary if we want to be used by him.

4. It is necessary that we confess openly Christ as our redeemer. This is not just a thing for one time after we converted or got baptised - it is a lifestyle for a Christian.

And isn't it true? Don't we take too much compromises in all of these areas?
And would it not look much different if we would be more radical in searching these things? Or is it just me?

It is amazing to read of this time.
They even did not have any worship leader at all in this period of revival. The spirit in the people was leading them on his own in prayer and worship.
And they did not do any kind of advertisment for their gatherings. People just came because they heard of it. And then the big newspaper wrote about them and with this made the advertisement.

Rahel, what I have been asking lately, is more like, ''Are we giving anything at all, that is in our ability?"
I recently had some misgivings about my church when I realized that my church was not involved in ANY active ministry in my community outside of the church. But then after seeing that...it was like I heard God ask, "So is that your excuse? What are YOU doing Robert?" Instead of judgeing the church....I was shown clearly that 'I AM The Church'....it is up to me.
PS. I also wanted to Thank You again for recommending Jack Hayford's book, Manifest Pesence. I also bought his 'Spirit Filled Life' Bible, then bought another for a friend. Then when I got back to Oregon, I heard He was doing a Free Conference, and I got him to sign Manifest Pesence.

Oh...maybe I have to explain :D
When I write "we" I always include myself....it's not meant as judgement or excuse at all. It's just asking questions :D
It is true that when we see something we need to start with ourselves...as Jesus said...care first for Your own splinter...
I just think that sometimes questions can make us think...
For me these thought challenge me very much...I put myself into the light and ask where I am just talking? Like faith without deeds...in one word: religiosity.
The hunger for an extraordinary outpouring is growing every day...it becomes more and more I need to get it...it's like the parable of the kingdom of God where somebody sells everything to get this one precious pearl.
I am sure I did not sell everything until now...but I ask the Spirit to help me to get into this place.
Right now he is going with me through the theme of finances. I want to get into the place where God can bless.

:) Hahahahaha...glad that You could meet this man...even though I am not such a signature-chaser

oh...and..:D....even though it's in the decision of every single person...we are still one body...a "we" :D ...even though we are spread over the earth :D
