Hey Everyone -

Tomorrow is a big day for me - Sunday, 3/18 ... it's the first Sunday that I'll be leading the worship as the new, full-time Worship Director at St. Simons Community Church. We had a great rehearsal this past Wednesday, and the band and vocalists were incredible - they were so welcoming, accomodating, and gracious. I'm excited, and although I feel like I have all the qualifications necessary ... I'm pretty nervous too. I'd be lying if I didn't confess that I sure hope to gain man's approval tomorrow ... I mean ... it would be my preference that this congregation reacts to my leadership in a positive way. At the same time, I've prayed, prayed, and prayed some more ... and asked God to simply help me to engage in authentic worship and lead others to do the same. Ultimately, it's HIS approval that I'm after. The other is just His favor and "icing on the cake".

Because it's my first time, and because my #1 goal is NOT necessarily to do all my "favorite, current songs", but to do "common ground" elements that will assist the congregation in engaging with us ... I've selected some songs that I hope can do that effectively:

"Meet with Me (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=QJ*v0oJgqDc&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FW ebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253 Fi%253D205583655%2526id%253D205583651%2526s%253D14 3441%2526partnerId%253D30)"
"Holy Is the Lord (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=QJ*v0oJgqDc&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FW ebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253 Fi%253D41737207%2526id%253D41737221%2526s%253D1434 41%2526partnerId%253D30)" (Tomlin) - a more upbeat arrangement
"The Solid Rock" (traditional hymn with a cool guitar-based arrangement in E)
"Be Unto Your Name (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=QJ*v0oJgqDc&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FW ebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253 Fi%253D6596637%2526id%253D6596629%2526s%253D143441 %2526partnerId%253D30)" (Robin Mark, from the old "Revival in Belfast" CD ... this Sunday will be the last day for the flute player (love ya, Elsa!), and she's great ... so I chose this song because it has a gorgeous flute part, and I wanted to allow her playing to be featured on her last day .. plus, the big 3/4 waltz chorus has always been a long-time favorite for me.
"How Great is our God (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=QJ*v0oJgqDc&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FW ebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253 Fi%253D128824026%2526id%253D128824003%2526s%253D14 3441%2526partnerId%253D30)" (Tomlin) .. need I say more?

Finally .. as the pastor is closing out a series on "heaven", we'll close with a funk-groove version of the old traditional hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven" ... definitely not the way you probably sang it back in the traditional church.

I'll let you know how things go .. pray for us to have an awesome time in worship and Word, and pray for my voice - it's not in shape for 3 back-to-back worship services!

For the Kingdom,
Fred

So???
How did it go?
Life is full of challenges and I can tell you are well organized and capable of doing great things. This task seems very easy for a talented person like yourself.

Peace and Love

Mike

Hey Mike -

It went great .. I did have one major blooper, though .. I posted a recap on my blog - I'll just link there instead of repasting here (yeah, of course maybe I'll get some new readers, too, haha!)

I'm not going to lie to you, I fell to the floor of the sound booth laughing. I could barely breathe!

Good times. Good times. :)
