Charlie Hall is the least famous out of the Passion group (maybe thats because hes not has fun as david crowder or as good looking at chris tomlin...my opinion). On Charlie's new album, "Flying into Daybreak", he has written possibly one of the best worship cd's i have ever heard.
Good Things: FINALLY a cd where every song sounds different. The cd is written in numberous keys, and they dont follow the 1-3-6-5 style of chords. Every song has amazing theology, we are supposed to worship in truth and this cd speaks more truth than most of the christian-hit radio worship songs.
Bad things: This can be a good or bad thing, but these songs are hard to play, it totally takes some talent on the drums and guitar to play this stuff. Because every song sounds different, most crowds might not like the style. Most of the songs sang in churches follow the same format in different keys (G-C-Em-D or C-F-Am-G) so Some of Charlie's stuff might not be so playable.
The songs off the cd that i play are:
Marvelous light
Song of the redeemed (The best song on the cd)
All we Need
Your Glory Endures Forever
Center
Come for me
Closer
I highly recommend the cd to anyone who wants to hear a different style of worship and song writing.

Wow...Charlie Hall...I love this man's lyrics, and I love this man's songs, and most of all, I love this man's heart, BUT...I've never been a huge fan of his recordings. Maybe it's the production - I don't know, but I almost always enjoy other people's versions of his songs more than his own. That's not to say I don't own a bit of his music - I use Charlie Hall's songs all the time, and the best place to find Charlie Hall's music is on Charlie Hall's c.d., however I almost always change the key, structure, or arrangement in some way. And, I might add: "Marvelous Light", "Center" & "Brave" are all EXCELLENT songs.

I'm a fan of Charlie's. I can't say that we've EVER played a Charlie Hall song in church simply because of the reasons you've mentioned. But the main one is that some of the songs just seam a bit unleadable. That is to say, I don't get the sense congregations can follow and learn the songs very easily. That's why I believe Tomlin's music has exploded in the local church. (Don't know about the "good looking" comment. I think it's more of the singability reason).
I will say that a couple of my team members have asked us to learn some Hall stuff, so, we're going to go for it. We'll probably start with Majesty...which I think was written by Martin Smith? So if I'm right...even that wasn't written by him!
Charlie's music is awesome and very inspiring. I LOVE Flying into Daybreak and really enjoyed his previous album.

I do a bunch of Charlie halls stuff in church. I find that his songs seem to minister to the congregation just as much if not more than tomlin stuff. His lyrics are amazing and I love where his heart in worship is.

Yeah I totally love Charlie. I've been following the Passion guys for a while and saw him right after Daybreak released on a Student Life Tour with Erwin McManus. I personally LOVE "On The Road to Beautiful" but I had to ask him because this CD was way different that previous releases they'd put out, what was different? He said they took a completely different approach and I kind of got the impression they were getting...pressure isn't the right word but 'the powers that be' were concerned with record sales and so they needed to try something a bit different yet stay true to who the Charlie Hall Band is.
I think it worked out gloriously! The CD is as you already mentioned: lyrically rich and creative. I'm sick and tired of the 'standard praise and worship structure' so I really enjoy what he's done here. And he's got some simple structured tunes here like "All We Need" and "Center." A little something for everyone you might say.

Charlie Hall is the least famous out of the Passion...probably because he's not as good looking at chris tomlin...my opinion)
It's gotta be because of he and Crowder's crazy goattees! If they'd only look as good as Chris then they'd have so much more notoriety and popularity with their music :D
That's got to be my reason too! HAHAHA
