I was talking to some of the teens from our church on facebook and a conversation got started about the hot new songs they did in youth on Wednesday. They were just going on and on about the songs being moving and relevant and hitting them right where they are. My son is the youth band leader and puts together the set lists.
The set list?
I Will Enter His Gates
We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise
Not To Us
Holy Holy God Almighty
Sanctuary
He's been planning for a while to add back some "oldies" but was apprehensive about how everyone would take to them. LOL.

Love it. Made me smile.
Revelation 21:5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

I have been thinking about this alot lately. Essentially "Reverse Modernising" ie using the old hymns in new ways in a contempory service (possibly rocking up the current arrangements or using the words to new melodies/chords)
May post a thread about this later.
But good on your son!! Strong songs!

Such a good point. Our church's testament to that is My Savior My God. Music director didn't realize that the verses were from a hymn. Good writing is always good, IMO
