View Full Version : What does your Easter Sunday Setlist look like?

Hello Everyone,
I apologize if there is already a thread on this topic. I looked for one and couldn't find one so here it goes.
Our theme for Easter is "It is Finished". We are going to have a huge cross at the front of the church. At the end of the sermon we are going to have everyone right down things they may need to overcome or problem areas they may be dealing with and nail them to the cross as a declaration that "It is Finished".
I really want to find a song that would fit this creative element perfectly.
Songs I am considering are:
At the cross-Hillsong
Grace flows Down-passion
You saw me-Hillsong
Beautiful the blood-Fee
Jesus paid it all-stanfill
What songs are you planning to sing or considering for Easter 2009?

We typically do the "same" stuff on Easter as we do any other regular Sunday. That's top to bottom, beginning to end. We don't do a special musical or presentation or whatnot. We do add in a few more visual and illustrative elements and props, because we know that for the most part our Easter service draws almost twice as many people who are far from God than on any normal Sunday. It's always our biggest day and we want to truthfully be able to say that this Easter service is just like any other service.
That being said music we're doing will probably be:
Just Wanna Say (Israel)
Your Name High (Hillsong)
With Long Life (Israel)
Mighty To Save (Hillsong)
I Will Rise (Tomlin)
probably 4 of those.

Our Easter Sunday usually looks and sounds the same as any other, except that we're well aware that we'll have an especially large number of relatively unchurched guests who probably don't have a relationship with Christ...so, we always focus on salvation, etc. I've made sure that our worship choir is performing this year.
We don't have everything finalized yet, but we're going to be focusing on the theme of overcoming. I know for sure that we're singing:
"Overcome" (New Life)
"Praise The King" (Cindy Morgan)
I'll report back in when we've got everything set.
Nate
I'm glad to see that SOMEBODY is on top of this, because I haven't done a single thing to plan for Easter Sunday yet!!!
I know I want to learn "Jesus Messiah" for Palm Sunday, and that's about as far into the future as I can see right now!
Our Saturday night service is a weird one on Easter weekend. We have made it into a "reaffirmation of Baptism" service, because it's not Easter yet.
But, if I were to come up with a list off of the top of my head for Easter, it would include:
Christ The Lord Has Risen Today (I came up with a rocked out version last Easter)
Crown Him With Many Crowns (as a ballad - my own arrangement)
My Redeemer Lives (Reuben Morgan)
Above All
Let God Arise
The Wonderful Cross

We meet to program Palm Sunday and Easter next Wednesday, so I've been looking for all the Non-music elements. I find these elements first to show the exact time allotted for worship.
We began to practice our Easter Drama last Wednesday. We are also using an Amena Brown monologue within the worship segment.
Although we used to do huge Easter productions, we now do as I think Russ mentioned - a true representation of our regular services on Easter so visitors get a true picture.

The last couple of years, my Sunday church has had their main Easter service at the local high school auditorium that holds around a thousand people. This year we will do the same. I have to set up my BIG system (the one I used at the Great Hall at Heinz Field) very early in the morning.
I'm hoping we get a lot of visitors - there was a big crowd last year - but the church still does a sunrise service and the usual traditional 8:15 service in addition to the big service at the school.

although we try to keep the format similar to our regular Sunday services, I usually try to pick songs that more reflect the spirit of the celebration. We also try to incorporate a special music number in there. So, our list will probably contain some of the following. This is just a rough plan.
Hosanna (Baloche/Brown)
My Redeemer Lives (Hillsongs)
Right now that I know of, we have 2 special music items planned. The choir will do one and then a member of our body will be sharing a song that they wrote, which is Easter themed.
We will also most likely incorporate a short video. I found one recently that illustrates the weight of the cross (being the weight of all of the worlds sin), etc.

Maybe I shouldn't mention it...but I boycott Easter.
I do Passover and Feast of Firstfruits instead. Lots of songs about the Lamb of God, sacrifice for sin, Moses & Pharoah, the blood, miraculous escape from Egypt, etc, etc, etc.
"The Sacrifice Lamb" by Lamb is pretty standard in the messianic community for this day.
Maybe I shouldn't mention it...but I boycott Easter.
Easter is the BIGGEST opportunity to reach the backslidden and the lost that we get all year long. That's why we make it a BIG DEAL.

Don't know much else about this year's set list yet, but I'm going to bet it's going to contain Happy Day! :)
Despite it's pagan roots, I love celebrating the resurrection on that day! Just does a body good to partake in the resurrection power of Jesus.

We are focusing on how Jesus bridged the gap for us, so we can have eternal life. We are building a bridge on the stage, that people can actually walk across to symbolically embrace the sacrifice made by the Lord - the crossing over from death and separation to a new life with Christ.
Songs will most likely include:
Mighty to Save
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Celebrate Jesus
I Will Rise
It is still a work in progress.

We're actually doing a Good Friday gathering as well (haven't had one in years). The theme is "Daddy why is this night so special?" The evening will be used to explain/demonstrate the events of the week leading up to the death of Jesus. We will leave the evening unresolved until Sunday morning when we celebrate our Saviour being alive.
No songs Friday, songs in the pool for Sunday:
He's Alive (chorus only)
He is Lord - Hillsong
Mighty to Save - Hillsong
Christ the Lord is Risen Today - Wesley (slightly tweaked arrg.)
My Redeemer Lives - Hillsong
My Life is in You - Gardner
Jesus Messiah - Tomlin
I Will Rise - Tomlin
The Stand - Hillsong
You Stand - Sprecker (that's me)
So many good songs, so little time...

I'll just tell the pastor to keep his message short. hehe. ;)
I would say only there are only 5 active worship songs. The others are songs we're playing while something is happening (gathering for worship, taking communion, walking out).

I mentioned that our easter service was going to be in a conference center. Well were holding it at the Embassy Suites conference center in town. And the staff there just told us that all of their rooms are booked solid! Hopefully we will have a HUGE turnout just due to that fact. Only problem is that if they are staying at a hotel then they most likley dont live in the area.
Hopefully it will spark them to follow up and visit a church in their town.

right now it's still up in the air, but i'm thinking of opening with all because of jesus, then having the "high tempo" set...
Let God Arise - tomlin
Your Grace is enough - maher
then slow it down a little
Mighty to Save (maybe) - it's been done a lot lately...
Jesus Messiah
and close w/ a hymn either
Jesus Keep me near the cross
or
He arose.

Good Friday service:
1. Beautiful Scandalous Night
2. I Stand Amazed
3. Amazing Grace
Easter service (this is subject to change... still not 100% sure)
1. The Wonderful Cross
2. Here is Our King
3. How Deep the Father's Love for Us
4. Grace Flows Down
5. In Christ Alone (Page CXVI version - in 4/4 time, some chord changes)
6. Arise, My Soul Arise
My alternate song is "Lead Me to the Cross" ... I'm trying to keep a good balance between the wordier hymns and contemporary choruses. Our congregation, thankfully, really appreciates both.
