I was re-reading in Matt Redman's "Heart of Worship Files" this past week (great book by the way...if you haven't read it...read it) and I was really struck by a comment in the book, basically a challenge, asking how many songs we sing about how great God is, as opposed to the number we sing about what He has done for us? How often do we worship God JUST for who He is, and leave us out of it. Probably not nearly enough. It was out of that thought, that I wrote this.

"Great and Mighty"

We behold the works of His hands
All of Nature at His command
Who are we, that He could love as He does
Oh God, that is why we sing

Great and Mighty is He, Great and Mighty is He
We lift up our hands and we sing His praises
Great and Mighty is He

Let heaven and nature sing
of the Glory of our King
The mountains tremble, the nations rejoice
Oh God, that is why we sing

Great and Mighty is He, Great and Mighty is He
We lift up our hands and we sing His praises
Great and Mighty is He

You sent down Your Son
A perfect sacrifice, Your kingdom come
Lord you are good and your mercies endure forever
That is why we sing

Great and Mighty is He, Great and Mighty is He
We lift up our hands and we sing His praises
Great and Mighty is He

Great and Mighty, is He
Worthy of honor, is He
Great and Mighty, Great and Mighty
Is He

Critique away, my friends!

Smitty! Great lyrics!

My first thoughts are of the old Integrity song called Great and Mighty is He...which isn't necessarily a bad thing...but back in the day we ran that song into the ground!

Otherwise, looks great!

Are you looking for only lyrical critique? I'd love to sing through these a few times and see if any melodies pop out...if you don't already have some.

The lyrics have a natural meter to them. I heard music the first time I read it so it's only a matter of what you'd like to do with it, I suppose.

I appreciate the kind words, brothers. I apparently didn't make myself clear though. The song is finished, I have a lead sheet for it. I post songs as lyric only evaluations because I don't have any way to record my stuff at the present time...other than four track cassette, and I don't know how to do that without WAY too much noise.
