Hey, my name is Jimmy Purchase, i am 19 years old, i attend Broward Community College, and i am a worship pastor at the church of Pembroke Pines in South Florida and we have 11 services . Guitar is what i play and i am also interested in recording. I read tons of theology/church books from almost everyone (key word is almost, i am very picky). and i am attempting to write my own music. i have a myspace (http://www.myspace.com/jimmyownsyoursoul)

Books everyone should have and that have helped me: "The Great Good Place" by Ray Oldenburg, "Whatever Happened to Worship" by A.W. Tozer, "Desiring God" by John Piper, "Planting Missional Churches" by Ed Stezter, and "Worship Old and New" by Robert Webber

Artists that influence my worship gathering are: U2, coldplay, death cab for cutie, newer hillsong united, charlie hall, nickel creek, the greencards, older passion stuff, and lupe fiasco.

I am a huge fan of vamps and heavy instrumentals, i am not a fan of guitar solos in a corporate worship setting, and Mark Driscoll, Robert Webber, Tim Keller, John Piper, Dan Kimball, and A.W. Tozer are my heroes and pastors.

Hey Jimmy!
Nice to know I'm not the only worship pastor in the world under 20!!! ;)

Books are awesome! I've reading a lot lately and a book I recommend is Matt Redman's "The unquenchable worshipper". Very good.

Cool that you're attempting to write your own music! Awesome!
I'm trying too, but it's not going very well hehe...

Now I'm gonna check out your myspace!

Did I read correctly? Did you say 11 services? How do you survive?

And btw, I'm 22, so I'm feeling you guys on the whole "young" thing.

its crazy, we have a service every night of the week at 7pm. We have a live band with different worship leaders and band every night, with a video sermon with host pastors, except on saturday night and sunday morning then we have live teaching. i lead the sunday night and thursday night. every night has around 50+ people, its awesome for intimate corprate worship.

Welcome Jimmy! Sounds like a great ministry. I am in my 20's as well it's great to see our generation come forward and lead worship.

Welcome! I'm 30...gasp.

It seemed like yesterday when I was in my 20s.

Tip: learn, lead, and learn some more.

Okay, I just want to take a minute to say Jimmy, YOU'RE THE MAN! 11 services? I know you only lead two, but SHEESH! Just the fact that you're involved with such a beast...wow. I'm very impressed. Do you have a website or something I could visit to help wrap my brain around this?

Jimmy,

I think you'd benefit from my book "The Life of Worship: Rethink, Reform, Renew". You can check out an excerpt at the link found at www.TheLifeOfWorship.com.

It's going to be important to think properly about worship theologically and biblically if you're going to work in such a busy ministry.
