I'm in a fairly small church and we don't have a ton of musicians to draw from. I'd like to start incorporate some other sounds into worship and was looking into the midi guitar stuff. My question is have any of you had any experience with this? I've seen some youtube clips and apparently you can get your guitar to sound like a flute, violin, sax, whatever you want. The idea is pretty intriguing. What have you guys experienced or heard??? I know Carvin has come out with a couple of new guitars with synth outputs built right in, and I loves me some Carvin.

I am seriously interested in getting one of these guitars for recording purposes but I don't know anyone that has one, and I haven't been able to get my hands on one either. I would be very interested in hearing anyone's experiences with recording these guitars as well as live performance.

A local guitarist in another church has one, and I had no idea what the heck he was doing the first time I heard/saw him play. Although it's not something we'll probably ever have a use for, it's very cool and creative, albeit a bit distracting (at least the first time you see/hear it).

What was he doing that was distracting? I'm thinking it would be kind of sweet if my electric guitarist has the option of playing say a cello or something in the background instead of a normal electric sound. I don't know though, we have a keyboard that can play pretty much whatever you want, but we use like 4 settings.

He wasn't doing anything, other than making unnatural sounds come out of his guitar, which, since I had no idea how the heck he was doing it, was distracting for me. :)
