Hmmmm... I think each of us has that person around us who has rewritten the words to that wonderful old hymn.
"Yes, you brought delicious fresh baked cookies to the party but I think the nut to chocolate chip ratio is just a little out of whack."
Oblique rant over... feeling much better now, not so inclined to bury eeyore with my shovel. (but still just a little inclined)
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This post is absolutely useless. I don't understand why anyone would post this garbage. It seems like you'd be better off baking cookies than writing....
HAHAHAHA. JUST KIDDING.
I actually have to battle against BEING the fount of negativity.
I'm cynical and sarcastic. My team knows this and I think they really appreciate it when I'm not those things, because they know I'm trying extra hard to be a good friend and leader!
Thanks for this great reminder for me! Keep it real!

Russ, I feel you on this one. Having worked the lat 12 years in the emergency department, I am just a tad cynical myself. I have fought it really hard and i am much better now, but dude, it aint easy.
I think post just became a meet of CA(Cynics Anonymous).
Hi, I'm Matt and I'm a Cynic.......

I'm actually working on writing a devotional for cynical Christians. My entry for January 1 is Genesis 6:6 "He was very sorry He had made them." It contains some of the wisdom I've acquired over the years, such as: Naked pride is better than feigned humility.

Cynical? Not me...not much
Thanks guys

Isn't both pride?

Yes, beatnik, you are right on, although I think your way of saying it stinks! :D
I'm sorry, the subject of your post just invites a humorous response.
I do agree with you that it seems there is always someone who comes in with the negativity. I am not sure why that happens, but I do know from my own conseling and what I have heard from some others, sarcasm, cynicism, and negatively generally come from anger. Maybe somewhere in that person's life there is an anger issue. It might be buried so deeply nobody can tell it is there, but it manifests itself the way you describe.
Not sure what you can do about it, except to come here and tell us your REAL feelings. :D

I loved it...it was just last night, at rehearsal. The WL and the vocalists are discussing what colors to wear on Sunday. They come up with peach, brown, pink, and red! (I am NOT making this up!) I'm playing bass this week, and I do a double take, and have to ask because I'm not sure I heard what I thought I heard. it's at this point the WL tells me, totally straight-faced " you can wear whatever you want, the band isn't important."
GRRRRRR!!

You're just one of those fancy walking, talking self-playing guitars. Be quiet or I will stop recharging your batteries! :D
Smitty, I think you have just stumbled on something big: Band Cammo!
Actually, I think you would look great in peach!

Clearly she needs to come to my church and substitute for me on Wednesday nights when we have no band more often than not. She would quickly change her tune!
And what's up with the coordinating outfits anyway? I would shoot myself if we all had to coordinate.

The co-ordinating outfits is something this worship team has just always done. They don't match, they wear complimentary colors...Pam pitched a fit last year when I had to buy a PINK POLO to co-ordinate.
Seriously, I did not take the remark well...especially when the precious vocalists are standing behind him, nodding heads like bobble head dolls at every word coming out of his mouth.

dude...as a WL, I'll acknowledge that I've said some pretty stupid things to people, but never that stupid (at least, to my knowledge and not having actually meant it and without immediately realizing my foot was in my mouth). I think I would have called his bluff by abandoning ship (inviting the rest of the unimportant people with me) that Sunday, but that's just because I'm a jerk.
I hope your blogging about this stuff so you can look back on it later and laugh...

SEVERAL thoughts ran through my mind, but I didn't say or do anything. The drummer, guitarist and I all shared a look..."what the? did you just hear THAT?" Pam opined that since I'm not important, maybe I should play whatever notes I want, rather than the correct ones.
BTW...I DO look good in peach! Pink...not so much!

Or maybe you all COULD color coordinate (the band). I'm thinking something like fluorescent green or purple...ya know, something that compliments the importance of the singers.

Smitty, your story about the color-coordination made me laugh (sorry) and I just HAD to share something that happened to me yesterday. We just started a worship team here (we've only been in this church a month) and one of the guitarists asked me before the service if I would mind if he played a certain song one step up (in G instead of F like everyone else). I thought I misunderstood him so I said, "you mean, instead of playing in the same key as everyone else, you want to play it in a different key?" To which he replied, "Yes, do you think it will sound all right? It's just easier for me in G." To which I replied, "@*$#&%!" Not really... but it was hard not to.

Rahel...sweetie...let me try this again...I didn't say I liked peach as a color for a man (I don't)...I DID say it looks good on me (it does). As a rule I tend to dress "preppy casual" (think Gibbs on NCIS).
Sky...hope you got that one worked out. Tell him about this great new invention for guitarists...the capo.
The service turned out okay. I have to give this WL some props. He picks good music, and the team is very capable. I DID notice that he got a bit of a talking to from his wife, who is also on the team. I think she gave him a "time out".

This was rather an answer to Julie's statement....I should have copy her post to make that clear :) ...sorry for that :)
But then we are in full unity :D

Sorry for distracting people on peach the colour rather than the topic of negativity. I struggle with this quite often... but do try to encourage rather than discourage. Negativity very easily becomes second-nature if you feed the beast...
