I was wondering how many of you have worship services outside of Sunday morning? What day of the week? What time? How do you make it different than Sunday mornings? How is the attendance to those services?

We currently have a Wednesday night worship service at 7pm. We typically do about 3 songs and then a short lesson/sermon. Sometimes the Spirit leads us to more of praise/prayer (where we have done about 6-7 songs) than a lesson/sermon. We typically wrap up around 8-8:30pm. Our attendance varies but is usually about 1/2 the size of our Sunday mornings.

We offered an "alternative" service last summer on Monday nights. We asked around and figure out that Monday night was the least busiest around town (restaurants, businesses, etc.).

We're considering offering a "First Wednesday" service as a deeper time of worship and vision-casting for our church body.

In addition to Sunday morning, we have an evening service at 7 pm. We do a little less contemporary and slightly more traditional music as compared to mornings. We usually have more time for some special music or solos. Many times we will have a larger attendance. The visitors home churches either don't have evening services, or they just want a different experience from their own morning service.

We have a Wednesday service at 7 pm. The Pastor will lead in some praise and worship on piano, then we'll go into some indepth bible study. Generally a small group, maybe 15 - 20 max?

For the past few months we've also been having something called "The Friday Night Thing" at 7 pm. I may lead some praise and worship on acoustic guitar or not, whatever the leader feels a need for. It's less formal and structured, we may do a short study series, watch a dvd, attend something at another church, etc. We're probably going to cut back to once a month during the summer. Also a pretty small group, probably 10 - 15, unless we're hosting some kind of special event that night.

Someone recently told me, "Sunday morning worship was set up that way by morning people! The rest of us hate getting up and going to church by 10:00 am on a Sunday. It's our only day to sleep in. I don't know why it's so widely accepted that church has to take place on Sunday morning." I had never thought of it that way and suddenly wished our church were able to offer an alternative for the 'morning people' (ha ha) like a Saturday evening service. We're not there yet, but it's on our minds.

In addition to two Sunday morning services we also offer a Saturday night service. This has worked out well so far. The only resistsance I get from many people is that Saturday night is going out time. This has come from both the un-churched and some of the people that I have talked to about putting together a band for that service.

I agree that there is no reason (other then tradition) that church has to be on Sunday morning. (of course I get up during the week at 0500, so not having to be at church until 0800 is sleeping in for me.)
