I've been listening to Moi (www.moimusic.org)now for a while, and I was driving home the other day and was listening to one of their songs and was wondering "Why have I never mentioned Moi on TWC before?" So, I decided I'd throw you guys a bone. Now, I don't know if I mentioned this before, but the stuff that I review in the "El New Music" series of threads isn't necessarilly "corporate worship" stuff, but is interesting music that (I find) really gets (my) creative whims a'whirling and just happens to be on (what I consider) "the cutting edge (if such a place still exists)."

Moi does just that for me. Moi is a band (it also happens to be the name of the lead singer [Moises Navarro]) based out of Riverside, California. They're pretty involved with the Calvary Chapel movement. Moi is hard to explain. They're not exactly electronic, not exactly acoustic, and not exactly traditional with vocals. Moi (the lead singer) uses a lot of effects on his voice, which is already very different from your typical CCM artist's voice. I guess what I love most about Moi is that you've probably never heard someone like them in Christian music. Love them or hate them, you can't deny their creativity.

The latest album, "superman", is really an upgrade of their las album, "fire on the mountain," featuring many of the same songs. I say upgrade because it's MASSIVELY overhauled. The last album was very acoustic-driven, and granted, boy can play acoustic guitar, but do yourself a favor and listen to the old "Emmanuel" vs. the new remix. You can't even compare the two. It's amazing what a little thunderstorm and electronic beat in the background can do to a song.

Whatever the case is, give them a listen out in myspaceland. Just click here (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=12233692). You can also check them out on iTunes.
