Been having a somewhat lively discussion about Tomlin's "Holy is the Lord" at http://milestoneworship.com/?p=78. So what are your thoughts?

Do you have a link to Mandy's blog? I would like to read the reasons in particular that the song was cut. Sounds like because the songs says "we stand and lift up our hands" and they don't, she doesn't think they should sing it?

Great challenge to consider about lyrics and physical responses. But do we have to measure everything by the physical and immediately at that? What if folks are raising their hands and bowing at home after having sung that song in a corporate setting? What if the songs we do together are the stimuli for the week ahead that includes private worship? This is good to always ask why we do what we do. Let's continue to pray for God's leading as we make "tough" decisions.

The bottom line is that we as "churches" have become much to packaged, dignified, and "clean"...

It's funny, that's been the reason I've hesitated introducing "Marvelous Light" to our congregation! NO ONE would lift their hands and spin around! Different story for the youth though :)

I am of the opinion that you do need to do songs that are appropriate for your congregation. I'm glad their planning team is even asking the hard questions and then having the gumption to make a hard call like that on such a 'popular' song.

When I listen to Charlie Hall sing Marvelous Light I get the distinict impression that he's talking about how he has at times responded to "the light that I have found" rather than describing what he is currently physically doing. (he's obviously singing into the micorphone and not in fact spinning.)

When I have heard other people sing this song it's as though they are urging eveyone to lift and spin right there and then...not sure if that was Hall's intention when he wrote the song.
