Incredible tune!!! Anybody ever heard it? So deep, and so simply heart-felt...

Part of the lyrics (chorus)...

"If I could be anyone at all, let me be the whore at your feet."

And the music fits it so well... Not your typical worship song, but I love it!

I've loved the Violet Burning ever since. They rerecorded "The Harlot" live in the studio for the cd "I Am A Stranger In This Place"...I love Michael's raw honesty

My current personal favorites are:

Marvelous Light - Charlie Hall
Creation's King - Graham Kendrick/Paul Baloche
You never let Go - Matt Redman
Heavenly Father, Beautiful Son - Sovereign Grace Music
Glorious - Chris Tomlin
It was Your Grace - Sovereign Grace Music
Everlasting God - Brenton Brown/Vineyard
See His Love - Tom Lockley/Tim Hughes
Let us Be - Robbie Riedner/Vineyard
Sweetly Broken - Jeremy Riddle/Vineyard
O Taste & See - Brian & Jenn Johnson
Bless His Name - Tony Sanchez/Vineyard
Shine - Matt Redman
Free - Steve Jones, Randy McCoy/Vineyard

I'm also partial to my newest song, "Rejoice in Me", but then again, I'm biased.

Most of these have been pretty well accepted anywhere I've introduced them in the past few months...solid God-glorifying lyrics, great, edgy, modern music...love'em!

I havent heard alot of these songs. I don't think a song like that would be appropriate for a worship service.would it? But like I said, I've never heard the song to know for sure. Is it a worship service type?

Of my former list, all of the above are currently 'CCM hits' getting regular radio airplay, so they're fairly easy to introduce to a congregation if you have Christian radio in your area. All of the original list are specifically praise & worship, so they are very appropriate. I've found that it's easiest to introduce unfamiliar material either as special music or as a 'walk in' (before the actual service begins) for two reasons: 1) the congregation doesn't feel pressured to sing a song they've not heard before, which for some congregations can be stressful, and 2.) it gives you an opportunity to gauge your church's response to the song, and helps you decide whether or not to introduce it into the regular worship part of the service. It is also helpful, if you are considering introducing a song soon, and if you have worship music playing (from a cd or itunes) over the system either before or after the service, slip in a few of the forthcoming songs you want to introduce into the mix - though they may not be 'conscious' of hearing it, it will still help them grow familiar with songs you hope to introduce in the near future.
I hope that helps! blessings...!

I'd also add, as it regards "the Harlot", that anything that is in the Bible is suitable for - in fact in the long run necessary - the church's well-rounded worship use. Some of the most powerful worship times I've been in have included readings of Old Testament passages that can be VERY unsettling (the "bashing babies heads against a stone" type passages) - it really helps the congregation keep in mind that God is big and not a tame God, and balances out the temptation to sing only happy "God is my girlfriend" style p&w material. I encourage it.

I agree with your method of introducing new songs and music as specials and at the very beginning or the very last sending song. That is how we do it too.
I was mainly wondering if The Harlot was suitable for a worship service. I'm sure that using the song would depend on each of the congregations style and feel. I don't mind stirring the pot tho! Thanks for the tip.
