Everyone agrees: Hallow God's name (treat His name reverentially)
Everyone agrees: Do not use God's name in vain (treating His name as common)
Disputed: Using 'the NAME', even reverentially

I'm thinking about Romans 14 here regarding 'disputable matters'.

Regarding holy days or not: "One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord." v.5,6

Regarding holy foods or not: "He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God." v. 6

It seems to me that the Scriptures teach that there is some room for a believer to determine before the Lord how to please Him with holy living. I'm wondering if using 'the NAME' falls in this category. You think?

Seems to me also that there is a warning about being too strident about this too: "So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves." Romans 14:22

Or am I barking up the wrong tree.
