Well said! I believe skill is so important, however, humility is so very important when it comes to band & singer positions. I've had problems with great skill but not so much humility. That's a bad place to be in... fixible, yes, but very difficult! Thank you!

Yeah... it is hard to say no to a very talented musician, but who doesn't have a heart for God. It hard to say no to a true worshipper, but who might not have the talent we are looking for. I agree with you whole-heartedly that we need to make a list of the essentials and stick to them! Thank you for your great article!!!

In one way, all 5 points are, "Duh!".

But what you say that is not so obvious is: (1) having a formal list of essential traits and sticking to them (rather than just asking your buddies, or including people just because they said they wanted to be 'in the band' and not hurting their feelings), and (2) putting a limit on the time the team is together - re-evaluating and re-select each year.

Good stuff, thanks.

i would like to hear other perspectives on whether or not your church/ministry includes "outsiders"...do you take on musicians from the community as a missions opportunity, trying to reach them for Christ??? maybe even testimonies on how this has or has not worked out...

Well said, I think this a great starting place to look at and evaluate when deciding on someone to be in the church band.
